A four Wheel Drive(4WD) system was developed to improve primary trdction performance(off-road drive, hill climb etc). It has made to improve fuel economy, endurance and handling performance since electronic 4WD system was developed. Recently, the research is progressing about distributing optimal torque of each wheel. This paper proposes control method to improve traction and handling performance between wheel torque distributions for 4WD system. This control system consists of slip control, handling control, preload control and NVH control. This control logic was confirmed by dynamic simulation using CarSim and MATLAB/Simulink. Finally, we evaluated this control algorithm by testing vehicle. We accomplished to improve tractirn and handling performance through optimal torque distribution control.
