While there is much speculation as to how the medical tourism industry will grow, several things are fairly certain. Medical Tourism is a fast growing industry as patients from all around the world travel from one country to another for healthcare. In the U.S. insurance companies begin to offer international provider networks to insureds, and employers tend to use medical tourism facilitators and highly developed international patient centers. Market opportunities due to affordability and accessibility make just about every destination a potential for medical tourism to someone, somewhere. Baby Boomers from the U.S., Canada, and Europe will continue to provide the volume of patients which necessitates the development of more assisted living and retirement centers overseas and the need for healthcare access for these Boomers. Korean government and healthcare industry started to realize the opportunities and potentials for this fast growing market and its profitability because of convergent aspects of the industry. However, due to the short history involving in this industry, there are various shortcomings in reception of overseas patients. Thus, convergence with MICE industry will furnish powerful measures and methods for the early establishment of Medical Tourism Industry in Korea. By inducing more MICE personnels to the Medical Tourism industry using their international personality, inter-cultural attitudes, and highly sophisticated manners to their customers, Medical Tourism industry and MICE industry will be better off.
