This present paper deals with the characteristric of wire vibration of wire EDM by laser beam measurement. In order to mesure frequency of the wire vibration, we developed laser beam measurement using Si-photo diode. There are also presented the results of the experimental researches. The frequency of the wire vibration is varied with feed rate, wire speed, voltage and offtime. Among these parameters, wire speed is very much influenced the frequency. It is possible that the optimum condition is predicted by the developed laser beam measurement.

At present. the designer. using the analysis software for plastic injection molding process have a difficulty to interface geometry model data of another CAD software. In this work. we have been concerned with developing the flow analysis system for plastic injection molding on the AutoCAD. We have concentrated on building a viable environment, including a resin databese, a menu-driven user interface and molding machine data file, And FEM/FDM/FVM was used in the flow analysis considering the effects of heat transfer between molten polymer, mold wall, and frictional heating by shear flow. This provides distribution of pressure, temperature, shear stress and shear stress. So. the system, which is called CAMA/Fill, is applied to predict weld line, air trap. gate position and runner balance. And using the analysis results, the molding factors can be estimated quality and productivity of parts at the stage of mold design. <br/>

The laser beam hardening has been experimentally tried to find the hardened characteristics of STD11. Experiment was performed on the optimum hardening condition with 2kW CO₂laser. The microstructure of the hardened layers was observed using the microscope. The hardened zones exhibits very high Vickers microhardness of 720Hv, however, the deoxidation was observed under the surface of hardened area. The case depth of hardened zones is about 0.6㎜ and case width is 4㎜. FEM-simulation on laser surface hardening of STD11 steel are described. With the proper assumption of the absorbed energy density, the calculated case depth and width in 2kW CO₂laser hardening were in good agreement with the experimental result. It was found that there is optimum absorbed energy density of STD11.
