EPUB은 국제전자출판포럼(IDPF)에서 정의한 현재 가장 많이 사용되고 있는 전자책 포맷이다. 하지만 전자책의 저작권 보호에 필수적인 DRM 적용은 아직 EPUB 표준으로 완 성되어 있지 않다. 기업용 DRM은 각 사용자마다 권한이 세분화 되어 있고, 인사이동이나 회사 정책에 따라 수시로 변경될 수 있다. 하지만 EPUB 기반 전자책은 대부분 열람 권한만을 제공하고, 미 리보기, 영구적인 판매, 대출 등 제한된 권한 관리만 필요로 한다. 이에 본 논문에서는 EPUB 파일에 권한 정보를 포함시키는 재패키징을 사용자 장치에서 수행하여 전자책 서비스에 필요한 서버 운영 비용을 낮추고 사용자 편의성을 개선할 수 있는, EPUB에 DRM을 적용하는 방안을 제시 한다. EPUB is the distribution and interchange format standard for digital publications and documents by the International Digital Publication Forum (IDPF), and the most widely used ebook format. Digital Rights Management (DRM) which is essential for copyright protection of ebook, however, is not completely defined in EPUB standard yet. Various rights of the content usage are defined in enterprise DRM area and can be modified frequently by the policy changes and business process reorganization. An ebook based on EPUB format, however, usually requires limited rights control such as read, preview, purchase, and borrow. In this study, we proposed the method of applying DRM to EPUB format, which can improve server operation cost for ebook service and user convenience, by performing DRM repackaging, which is required to include rights information of each EPUB content, on user s devices.
