This studies were carried out to investingate the arthropods and soil nematodes communities in surface soil of forest from Uwabumyun, Nanyangju-gun, Gyunggi-do, and Mt. Namsan, Seoul in May to September, 1982. The results obtained are as follows: 1. Among the arthropods from surface soil in pine forest, the springtails of Collembola were shown to be the highest density (22%) and the other 9 Orders were found in decreasing order as follows; Coleoptera, Hymenoptera, Diptera, Orthoptera, Hemiptera, Lepidoptera, Dermaptera, Psocoptera and Thysanura. Also Araneina of Class Arachnoidae was shown to be high density (18.5%). 2. In Collembola, Homidia sauteri Borner was the dominant species during the whole season and a great number of Philonthus spinges Sharp in Coleoptera were collected particulary after August. In Humenoptera, ant of Formicidae such as Camponotus herculeanus japonicus Mayr, Formica rufa truncorum Fabricus were collected mostly, and in Diptera a variety of species were collected in great numbers, among which Phorodonta sp., Phora eareaia Brues were dominant. In Orthoptera, Diestrammena goliath Bey-Bienk, Scapsipedus aspersus Walker were dominant species, whose population increased sharply after July. In Araneina, Pardosa hedini, Gnaphosa Kompirensis, Genus Pardosa and Genus Xysticus we found as dominant spicies during the whole season. 3. In the case of the deciduous forest, Coleoptera was the dominant group which consist of the majority of number among all Arthorpods. On the other hand, Collembola as a dominant group in pine forest was collected very few in deciduous forest. 4, Total size of the arthropod's community in pine forest tends to increase from May except August which was not collected well, but each others were shown the tendency to decrease after July except Coleoptera. 5. As the soil nematodes in pine forest, 17 Genuses were found among which ditylenchus, Rotylenchulus, and Pratylenchus were shown to have a high density relative to others. The total number of soil nematodes have a tendency to increase after june but study period for the nematodes was very short.
