For the evaluation of a heat transfer coefficient of a plate type heat exchanger, a fresh water generator was tested with the seawater under the real operation conditions. Although many studies reported on the fresh water generator up to now, there is no report on the full-scale experiment with the seawater in the authors' acknowledgement. The heat transfer coefficient of the plate type heat exchanger was approximately estimated from the fresh water generated from seawater because the purpose of this study was aimed to develop a commercial fresh water generator not a prototype one. The experiment was carefully performed to be matched with on-the-ship operation conditions as possible. The measured heat transfer coefficient was well satisfactory compared with on-the-site anticipation and the installed plate type heat exchanger was confirmed to have the 30 Ton/Day capacity of fresh water.
