이 연구는 기존의 태권도에 관한 동양철학이나 교육적 가치의 논의에서 벗어나 태권도가 갖는 의미를 기호학적(semiotic) 관점에서 분석하고자 하였다. 태권도 경기장의 의미를 다면적으로 분석하기 위하여 태권도 경기규칙 제3조(경기장)에 해당하는 문장에 13개의 번호를 붙인 후 각 문장의 의소(same) 범주분석을 시작으로 그레마스(Greimas, Algirdas Julien)의 기호학을 방법론으로서 적용하였다.첫 번째, 태권도 경기를 진행할 수 있는 영역, 진행할 수 없는 영역, 두 영역이 동시에 존재하는 영역으로 세가지 범주의 문장을 분별하였다. 또한 이 세 영역이 서로 평행선을 그리며 독자적으로 존재하는 것이 아니라, 서로간에 무수히 많은 비정형적 교차점을 이루고 있다고 할 수 있다.(제1의소 분석) 두 번째, 각각의 문장에서 공간성을 결정하는 핵의소를 도출하였고, 각각의 핵의소에 의하여 공간성이 있음/없음이 나타났다. (제2의소 분석) 세 번째, 공간성을 나타내는 하위 의소를 분석하여 공간성이 갖는 잠재태를 도출하였다. 각각의 층위에 있는 공간성은 시각적으로 확인될 수 있는 것이다. 그러나 가시적 공간성과 동일한 층위에 있는 비가시적 공간성은 경기규칙에서 규정하지 않는 것으로 선수들이 겨룰 수 있는 공간의 잠재적 상태를 의미한다. 이러한 하위 범주들은 계속적인 분류를 통하여 지배적 동위성이 태권도 경기장이라는 것을 증명한다. (제3의소 분석)그리고 첫 번째 기호 사각형은 동일한 구조를 구성하고 있는 변별 자질들이 유지하는 관계, 즉 허용/금지의 관계 구도를 의미의 기호 사각형으로 구조화하였다. 마지막으로, 두 번째 기호 사각형은 각각의 범주들의 구성요소가 갖는 의미작용을 이분법적 관계에서의 논리로서 설명하였다. 논리구조로서 태권도 경기장은 사회와 대조를 이루며 규칙, 규정된 공간, 허용, 자유가 내포된 제한 등의 범주를 묘사하고 있다. 이러한 관계 구조는 태권도 경기장을 non-경기장의 부정, 그리고 사회와의 대립 관계를 통하여 그 존재적 양태를 규명한다.이 연구를 통하여 텍스트(text)로서의 태권도와 태권도의 다의성(多義性)을 제시하고자 하였다. 태권도는 그 자체에 의미가 내재되어 있으며, 그러한 의미가 철학적 대상에서 제외되는 소재라 할 지라도 충분히 논의되어져야 할 가치를 지니고 있다고 할 수 있다. 따라서 태권도와 관련하여 단선적인 연구가 아닌 다양한 시각에서의 연구가 지속되어져야 할 것이다. This study tries to analyze meaning of “tae kwon do” from the semiotic point of view that are to escape from debate of oriental philosophy, and educational value in connection with established “tae kwon do” theory. To analyze many-sided meaning gives the numbers are sentences which are quoted from the first to thirteenth of sentences at a article 9 in a “tee kwon do” rule. Furthermore, as starting to analyse a category of each sentences’semes adapts Greimas, Algirdas Julien’s semiotics.To biging with, as a result of analyzing the primary serves of a “tae kwon do” field, it was found that the rules could be divided into three categories: categories keeping the match proceed, categories stopping the parallel lines, and the categories inbetween.(the first semen analyzing) The second, semes show “sa´me nucleaire” to make spatiality, and in each “seme nucleaire” illustrate existence/absence of spatiality.(next semes analyzing). the last analyzing, spatial potentiality are appeared by analyzing of sub-semis. Spatiality in each stages can be confirm as a visual. However, invisible spatiality, exiting in the same stage with visual spatiality and competed by athletes, means potential space to compete as limiting in game rules. These sud-categories verify that dominant isotopy is a “tae kwon do” field by classification of semes.(final semis analyzing)And the first semiotic square structurize relationship to sustain distinct traits; namely, semiotic square of meaning show related shape of permission/prohibition. The fecal, the last semiotic square account semiosis of each categorize. A “tae kwon do” field opposites society, and describes rule, limited-space, permission, and limitation including free by logical structure. These relation structure verifies existent shape by contradiction of non-a field, and opposite relationship with society.It makes an attempt to suppose “tae kwon do” as text, and polysemy of “tae kwon do” as this study. “tae kwon do”has meaning of itself, and these meaning value even if a meaning except in a philosophical subject, Thus, the study should continue that are in the various points of view escaped from the simple viewpoints.
