.This paper presents a novel type of a semi-active suspension system featuring ER(electro-theological) damper. Firstly, an ER fluid is composed and its Bingham property is tested as a function of an electric field. Governing equations of motion or the ER damper are derived by considering field-dependent yield stress, followed by the design and manufacturing through performance analysis. A semi-active suspension system is then formulated and its dynamic characteristics are evaluated via several control algorithms. It is show that the proposed method is very effective for the improvement of the vibration isolation.<br/>

The ER fluid-filled damper characterizing continous modulation of the damping force is devised and experimetally realized. The governing equation of the hydraulic model is obtained through a bond graphic method. The performance of the ER damper is evaluated with respect to the electric field strength.<br/>

This paper presents performance analysis and field test for ride comfortability of a vehicle with electrorheological(ER) damper. A dynamic model of the ER damper is formulated by the bond graph method incorporating eectric field-dependent Bingham properties of ER fluid obtained experimentally. Based on this model, the ER damper is designed and manufactured for a small-sized passenger vehicle. Subsequently. the vehicle with ER damper is modeled to analyze performance through computer simulation. Both simualtion and field test show that the proposed semiactive ER suspension system can provide superior ride comfortability to some conventional system.<br/>
