The Ministry of Education has been supplying e-textbooks to schools for since August 2012, and still there are no teaching and learning guidelines available let alone any usable teaching or learning models. So it seems like an ideal time for teaching and learning models to be developed which will effectively integrate the instructional use of the e-textbook into the current school system. The purpose of this study is to design and apply an instructional model using the e-textbook within elementary English education and to investigate the feasibility and effects of the model. To do this, we analysed the demand of 390 elementary school students and 20 teachers who have extensive experience English teaching at an elementary school. The results of the demand analysis revealed that the students asked for more small group activities, interactions and multiple resources to support their learning of components such as pronunciation and vocabulary. Teachers added on/off blended models in consideration of the different levels of technological support currently available in the classrooms. The current study developed and tested a teaching and learning model using the e-textbook and incorporated the needs of students and teachers and the current curriculum's goals and principles. Our pre-post comparison of a single experimental group of 27 fourth grade students showed that the developed model has an effect on the teaching and learning of English using the e-textbook.
