4-tert-octylphenol에 노출된 저서성 요각류 Tigriopus japonicus s.l.의 발생지연 현상

The ecotoxicological effects of 4-tert-octylphenol were observed on Harpacticoid copepoda Tigriopus japonicus s.l. gathered and cultured from tidal pool of Korean coast. There were no significant differences in survival rate (except 10 ㎍/ℓ; 70.00%) and sex ratio (except 30 ㎍/ℓ) on T. japonicus s.l. exposed to 4-lert-octylphenol. However, 4-rert-octylphenol induced developmental delay (copepodite emergence day and adult male mergence day) and retardation of first brooding day of adult female. Moreover the body size and biomass decreased at 4-tert-octylphenol exposure. As a result, detailed life-cycle research of T. japonicus s.l. may yield potential bioindicators for environmental monitoring and assessment.

The ecotoxicological effects of two antibiotics, fenbendazole and lincomycin, were observed in the harpacticoid copepod Tigriopus japonicus s.l. collected from tidal pools in the southern coast of Korea. Fenbendazole had a significant effect on the survival rates (p<0.05), delay of copepodite emergence, and urosome size (p<0.05). Lincomycin, on the other hand, had no significant influence on these environmental indicators. However, our analysis of morphological abnormalities in T. japonicus s.l. showed that lincomycin was more effective than fenbendazole in causing deformities. The pattern of deformity was diverse, with fused segments, and loss or addition of setae in the swimming legs. All of these patterns appeared as a result of relatively low concentrations of this antibiotic (0.3, 1㎍ L?¹). We report here patterns of morphological abnormality in T.japonicus s.l. exposed to antibiotics, and suggest their possible application in ecotoxicological monitoring.

수서생태계에서 중금속 오염은 경제적, 환경보건적으로나 매우 중요한 문제이다. 최근 중금속에 의한 생태계의 안전과 건강성에 대한 우려가 대두되고, 이를 모니터링하고자 하는 시도가 이루어지는 실정이다. 이에 국내산 무갑류인 풍년새우(Branchinella kugenumaensis)를 대상으로 카드뮴(Cd)과 구리(Cu)의 장기간 노출에 따른 생물학적 반응을 파악하고자 하였다. 장기간(30일) 동안 Cd와 Cu에 노출된 풍년새우에서 생존율이 모든 농도에서 통계적 유의수준으로 급격히 감소하였다(p<0.05). 특히 상대적으로 고농도의 Cd와 Cu 노출된 개체들이 크게 감소한 것으로 나타났고(p<0.01), Cd 노출의 경우 농도 의존적으로 반응이 나타났다. 풍년새우의 성장률 또한 두 중금속 노출 후 모든 농도에서 감소되는 것을 확인하였다. 풍년새우의 내구란 수로 관찰한 생식율은 Cd와 Cu 노출 후 급격히 감소하는 것을 관찰할 수 있었다. 나아가, 장기적인 중금속 고농도 노출에서 풍년새우의 생식이 심각하게 저해되는 반면에, 풍년새우의 성비에는 영향이 크지 않았다. Cd 노출 후에 풍년새우에서 비대칭적인 telson 형태기형이 관찰되었으나 이러한 기형형태는 대조군에서는 전혀 발견되지 않았다. 결론적으로, 본 연구를 통해 Cd와 Cu의 중금속 장기노출에 의해 풍년새우의 생물학적 반응지표들의 변화를 확인하였다. 장기적인 노출실험 결과, 풍년새우는 중금속 노출에 대해 민감한 지표종일 뿐만 아니라 장기적인 수생태계의 모니터링을 위한 기반자료로 중요한 가치가 있을 것으로 고려되어졌다. Heavy metal contaminants on the aquatic environment are of interest because they can have severe effects on economy and public health. Recently, the studies for monitoring of heavy metals try to do on aquatic system to assess safety and health of ecosystem by heavy metals. Thus, biological responses were investigated on Korean fairy shrimp Branchinella kugenumaensis exposed to cadmium (Cd) or copper (Cu) for long-periods (30 days). The survival rate decreased significantly (p<0.05) on B. kugenumaensis exposed to Cd and Cu at all concentrations. Especially, the highest decrease was observed at the relatively high concentration of Cd and Cu (p<0.01) and the response by Cd exposure was at dose-dependent. The growth rates were also decreased significantly (p<0.05) on B. kugenumaensis exposed to Cd and Cu for at all concentrations. Then, the reproduction rate, numbering cyst, was decreased significantly (p<0.01) on B. kugenumaensis after Cd or Cu exposures. Long exposure of the relatively high concentration Cd and Cu can have severe effects on the reproduction, while exposures of Cd and Cu can not have effects on sex ratios of B. kugenumaensis. Additionally, asymmetric tel son deformity was only observed after Cd exposure. Therefore, these results suggest that B. kugenumaensis is a sensitive bio-indicator of heavy metal exposure and these biological responses of B. kugenumaensis give important information for long-term monitoring on aquatic ecosystem.

Copepods play an important role as a primary consumer in the various aquatic ecosystems. Most of marine benthic copepods belong to the Order Harpacticoida, and are known over 3,000 species in the world. Research on the biodiversity of the benthic copepods are important in the development of the new bio-resources, and the genetic resources. The importances and the prospects of biodiversity research on the marine benthic copepods are discussed.
