중 · 고령자 세대의 장기간 자원봉사 활동 경험에 관한 질적 연구

본 연구는 중 · 고령자세대의 장기간 자원봉사활동의 경험을 탐색하기 위한 질적 연구이다. 연구 참여자는 C시내에 거주하는 47세 이상의 남여 11명(남성 5명, 여성 6명)이며, 장기간자원봉사의 기준에 적합한 의도적인 표본추출방법과 눈덩이 표집방법에 의하여 선정되었다. 연구는 2013년 12월부터 2014년 10월까지 진행되었으며, Giorgi의 현상학적 방법으로 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 경험의 중심 현상은 ‘봉사의 현장에서의 생생한 감동으로, 삶의 우선순위가 변화되어 어우러지다.’ 로 드러났다. 봉사를 지속시키는 가장 큰 힘은 봉사현장의 역동적인 경험을 통해 생성된 생생한 감동, 변화된 정체성, 자발성이었다. 경험의 주제는 ① 다양한 동기로 가볍게 시작하기 ② 개인과 사회의 환경을 개선시키는 작은 힘으로 살아가기 ③ 새로이 배우는 즐거움을 누리며 삶의 지혜를 깨달아가기 ④ 사회의 일원이 되어 공동체로 어우러지기 ⑤ 인생관이 변화되어 새로운 정체성으로 살아가기로 드러났다. 그러한 경험은 ①두드림 ② 스며듦 ③ 출렁임 ④ 어우러짐 ⑤ 꿈꾸기의 과정을 거치고 있었다. 장기간 자원 봉사자들의 정체성은 낯선 세계로 들어선 방문자(visitor)로 시작하여, 점차 도움이 되고자 하는 조력자(helper)로 변화하다가, 마침내 새로운 가치관을 가지고 일체감을 누리는 그들 중의 한 사람(one of them)이 되어 어우러져 살아가고 있음이 드러났다. This study intends to establish the ways to promote voluntary activities to seniors by providing the understanding of the meaning and value of voluntary activities, which were carried out by volunteers in Chuncheon, South Korea. In this study, we conducted several interviews with 11 persons age over 47(5 male, 6 female) who volunteered for more than 7years or over 300 hours. The interviews were carried out through 1-2 hours in depth interviews and phone calls and e-mailing. We analyzed the volunteers’ experience on long-term voluntary activities by Giorgi’s phenomenological analysis. As a result, we found a major theme of experience structure, which is entering a new world of volunteering which changed the priority of their life and enjoying togetherness with them. There were five processes of experience of volunteer activities.:① Starting ② Changing ③Waving ④ Growth ⑤ Expending. Also, there appeared change of volunteers’ identity(visitor, helper, one of them). We found 5 meaning units of volunteer activitie s.:① Simply beginning volunteer work with various reasons. ② Awakening their own power to make individual and social environments better. ③ Learning life lessons and enjoying the joys of learning. ④ Understanding rather than criticizing current social problems. ⑤ Changing values and encountering new identity.
