In order to eliminate the TPM(total particulate matter) from diesel engine, we designed and manufactured the paniculate trap system using the burner. We also investigated burner characteristics according to the operating parameters.<br/> Burned gas temperature can be well controlled by the 2nd air flow rate than the 1st one. To lower axial and radial temperature gradient in the filter, the higher space velocity is needed.<br/>

The regeneration characteristics of the burner type particulater trap system were investigated. The key point that guarantees the durability of the filter is to lower the peak temperature, the axial and radial themperature gradients in the filter during regeneration. In this study we introduced the feedback control of the bypass valve to keep the burned gas temperature to be constant in front of the filter.<br/> Regeneration of the particulates starts near center of front side and ends around the circumference of rear one. As the closing clearance angle decreases, the peak temperature and the maximum temperature gradients are reduced and the regenertion time increases. When the burned gas temperature is kept to 700℃ and the closing<br/> clearance angle is set to 5°, the maximum temperature doesn't exceed 8OO℃ and the thermal gradients are limited to ±35℃/cm.<br/>
