The gas pressure acting on the rings in internal combustion engine influences the friction, wear and HC emission. In order to understand their characteristics, it is necessary to measure the inter-ring gas pressure during engine operations.<br/> In this study, miniature type pressure transducer was developed to measure inter-ring gas pressure. And measurements of cylinder and inter-ring gas pressure were made on a gasoline engine running at full and part load conditions. Finally the characteristics of inter-ring gas pressure variation during engine operations were obtained from analysis of measured data.<br/>

Approximately 30 to 70% of the mechanical losses in a reciprocating engine are contributed by the friction at the piston ring-cylinder interface. The friction characteristics of the piston ring during operating condition is known to as mixed lubrication experimentally. The mixed lubrication models based on the Average Reynolds Equation have been used by this time in order to study the tribological performance of the ring. However, the Average Reynolds Equation contains the expected value term( h_τ) of local film thickness as well as nominal film thickness(h), so that the work of numerically solving  ̄hr must be included to obtain the pressure in the oil film. The process of solvong  ̄hr causes a greater multiplying in the numerical solution.<br/> In this paper mixed lubrication analysis using the Simplified Average Reynolds Equation in the piston ring is presented. This equation has only h as oil film thickness term. Therefore the tedious numerical procedure required to obtain  ̄hr is not needed, and also, computation time can be reduced.<br/>

Cylinder gas flow through a piston-ring pack, blow-by influences the engine performance, the gas pressure acting on the rings which influences the friction and wear characteristics and HC emission. The flow passages consist of ring end gaps, clearances between the ring and the piston groove and nonconforming areas between the ring and the cylinder liner. The gas flow in the clearance between the ring and the groove is directly affected by the axial motion of the ring in the groove.<br/> In this paper the asperity contact force is newly considered in the prediction of the clearance between the ring and the groove surface. This term considerably alleviates divergence property of numerical solution. And it must be taken into account physically in case that the clearance get narrow rather than asperity height between the ring and the groove surface.<br/>

The object of this study is to find new evaluation index for in-cylinder flow characteristics instead of current swirl, tumble coefficient using steady flow test rig on intake port system. To this end, port flow rig test was conducted on DOHC head varying intake valve lift respectively. Finally combination angular coefficient and inclination angle were introduced as new evaluation index for in-cylinder angular flow characteristics.<br/>

In-cylinder flow motion is one of the most important factors that controls combustion process in spark-ignition engines(SI engine). In this reason, there were many experiments to examine it closely by combustion diagnostics which had analyzed combustion events in the base of in-cylinder pressure. This paper is a comparison of performance and combustion characteristics between 0.96 of tumble ratio(Rt) and Rt(1.06) in the 4-stroke single cylinder SI engine.<br/>
RON 값에 따른 단기통 엔진에서의 연소 특성에 대한 시험 비교

It was known that the RON value of fuel has significant influence on the combustion knock in a gasoline engine. Lots of previous papers were focussed on knocking problem and chemical reaction on fuel. In this paper, experimental results for RON effect in Full load and Part load were presented. It were found that the RON value of fuel affects conspicuously on fuel mass burned rates, especially 10% mass burning rate and 10~90% mass burning rate, emission distribution, and ignition timing.<br/>
