The author made a study upon 124 cases of industrial accidents of workers, who treated at Presbyterian Medical Center at Chonju during the year of 1983. The results of the study were as follows: 1. The prevalent age group was the 3rd and 4th decades (66.1%), and more frequent in male (9.3 times). 2. The accident occured mostly in manufacturing industry (40.3%), the construction (27.4%) and transportation-comminucatin industries (17.7%) were followed. Machine handlers were apt to get more injury (53.2%). 3. The sites of the injuries showed the preponderance to upper extremities. Of the upper extremity, hand injury were common (32.3%). Also, multi-system injuries were occured (25.0%). 4. By the kind of injuries, fracture and dislocation was highest as 37.1% and the next was multi-system injury as 16.9%. 5. The injuries were more common during summer(32.3%), on Friday (23.4%) and between 10 and 12 o'clock (23.4%) and 14 and 16 o'clock (21.0%). 6. By the duration of treatment, the most cases were required the treatment over 2 weeks (73.4%). It was required to be taken the prolonged treatment in the mining and construction company workers. 7. The causes of accident were the unsafe handling of machine (45.2%) and lack of safety (20.2%) in unexperienced workers who worked less than 6 months. The other causes were the improper facilities and insufficient supervision in experienced workers who worked more than 6 months.

To find out the incidence rate of farm machinery injuries for rural residents and to analyse characterisitics of injuries, we surveyed 10,075 rural residents from six Myons in Chungnam province from January 1, 1990 to Deccember 31, 1990 The results were as follows: 1. 94.4%(101 persons) of the injured were male; 5.6%(6 persons) female. 2. The annual incidence rate per 1,000 rural residents was 10.6 persons, and the annual incidence rate per 100 farm machines was 11.2 persons. 3. The number of the injured were more in mountainous district than in plain distict 4. Injuries were occured throughout the year but predominantly in April and October. Farm machines which caused accidents were power tillers, combine, and a farm tractor in that order of frequency. 5. The injured part of body were fingers and arms, foot and legs, the chest, and the waist in that order of frequency. 6. Most of the injured had been to medical institution for treatment. 7. The major cause of injuries was personal factor.
