많은 출가자들이 사찰승가대학(전통강원)을 졸업하고도 동국대학교나 중앙승가대학교로 진학을 하고 있다. 이는 사찰승가대학(전통강원)의 교육 내용이 피교육자의 교육욕구나 사회적 변화에 적응하는데 필요한 지식 및 기술교육을 충분히 감당하지 못함을 의미한다. 사찰승가대학(전통강원)은 피교육생 수, 교수 및 강사의 수 및 질적 수준, 그리고 교육성취도에 대한 평가시스템의 부족 등 교육기관으로서의 기본 조건도 제대로 갖추고 있지 못한 상태이며, 그로 인한 교육의 부실화가 오랫동안 문제점으로 지적받아 왔다. 그러나 승가기본교육은 여전히 삼원구조를 그대로 유지하고 있을 뿐만 아니라, 개혁의 과제는 하나도 처리되지 못하고 그 자리에 멈추어져 있다. 설상가상으로 출가자가 급격히 줄어들면서 피교육자의 숫자가 급감함에 따라 기본교육기관의 구조조정이 승가교육의 최대 과제로 부상하고 있다. 그렇기 때문에 어떻게 기본교육기관을 개혁하면서 동시에 그 과정 속에서 사찰승가교육도 함께 혁신할 것인가에 맞춰 사찰승가대학(전통강원)의 문제점을 보다 구체적으로 살펴보고, 그 대안을 제시해 보았다. 그 대안으로 기본교육기관들은 불교의 미래를 위해 현재의 위상을 버려야 하며, 종단에서 직영하는 단일화된 새로운 기본교육기관이 새로이 세워져야 할 것이다. 이러한 단일화된 기본교육기관의 후속 대책으로 전통강원을 전통교육 전문교육기관으로 전환시키고, 그 운영체계와 내용을 구체화해서 국가의 무형문화재로 지정 받아서 운영하는 방법으로 전통승가교육을 지속화하고 강화하는 것을 제안해 보았다. 이로써 기본교육기관의 단일화를 통해 오랜 시간 동안 숙제로 남아 있던 승가교육의 일원화가 피교육자에게 동일한 교육환경과 교육내용을 통해 양질의 교육을 제공하여 피교육자의 질적 수준을 높임은 물론 종단차원의 삼보정재의 낭비를 최소화하고 행정의 용이성 또한 자연스럽게 이루어질 것으로 사료된다. Even after graduating from Buddhist monks' academy (traditional Gangwon), many monks go on to Dongguk University or JoongAng Sangha University. This means that the educational content of the Buddhist monks' college (traditional Gangwon) does not adequately cover the educational needs of the trainees or the knowledge and technical education necessary to adapt to social changes. Temple Sangha University (Traditional Gangwon) is not well equipped with basic conditions as an educational institution, such as the number of trainees, the number and quality of professors and instructors, and the lack of an evaluation system for educational achievement. has been pointed out as a problem. However, the basic education for sangha still maintains the three-dimensional structure as it is, and none of the reform tasks have been dealt with. To make matters worse, as the number of trainees plummeted as the number of homeless students sharply decreased, the restructuring of basic educational institutions is emerging as the biggest task of Sangga education. Therefore, in accordance with how to reform the basic educational institutions and at the same time also innovate the Buddhist monk education in the process, we looked at the problems of the Buddhist monks' college (traditional Gangwon) in more detail, and suggested alternatives. As an alternative, basic educational institutions should abandon their current status for the future of Buddhism, and a new unified basic educational institution directly managed by the cult should be established. As a follow-up measure to such a unified basic educational institution, it is to convert traditional Gangwon into an educational institution specializing in traditional education, to materialize its operating system and contents, and to continue and strengthen traditional Sangha education by designating and operating it as a national intangible cultural asset. Through the unification of basic educational institutions, the unification of Sangha education provides high-quality education to trainees through the same educational environment and educational content, thereby enhancing the quality of the trainees as well as improving the longitudinal level of three-dimensional education.
