By the turn of the 21st century, globalization has made it easier for many people to move across borders. Labour migration continues to increase due to income gaps between countries, aging societies in developing countries, and avoidance of certain industries. Developing countries tend to send labours to developed countries. ASEAN countries also send a lot of labours abroad however, there is a high percentage of migrant workers send and accept in ASEAN countries. In particular, the majority of Myanmar's labour migrants were sent to Thailand (Y. Kim et al. 2010). Low-skilled migrant workers to fill the shortage of labour are contributing heavily to the economy of the destination country. However, although labour migrants have moved to improve their individual financial status, debt-ridden challenges emerged due to obtaining legal status to move legally and legally engage in economic activities. Therefore, this paper analyzed how legal status has affected financial status, debt, and savings of Myanmar labour migrants in Thailand. A survey was conducted on labour migrants from Myanmar in the Prachuap Khiri Khan province in Thailand. The survey responses were divided into regular and irregular migrants and compared their financial status. The finding mainly suggests regular labour migrants have more debt in the long-term view and that their individual financial status is deteriorating. Therefore, this paper, expecting to supplement the economic vulnerability of labour migrants in Thailand and protect labor rights more sustainably.
