The Mudo is one of the products of the intellectual ferment that eventually broke down the narrow limits within which the Confucian oriented bakufu officials sought to confine the thinking of the Japanese people. Tao, according to both the Lao-tzu and the Chung-tzu, is nameless and unnameable, a unitary “that” from which all else springs. Such is the orthodox Taoist view. The Japanese, however, less inclined than the Chinese to abstract speculations about an “otherwordly” life, and favoring s pragmatic outlook, took the Tao - Do in Japanese - to be a more realistic concept, one that was applicable to man in his social relationships. The Tao as do was therefore understood by the Japanese to be a “way” or “road” to follow in life. Thus man can understand the Concept “Mudo” as the way of Mu(武). Mu means not only martial skill, but also the man who accustomed to the skill. So to speak, Mudo means the way of the skill(martial skill) and the way of the man(who accustomed to the martial skill). The way of bodily skill is motology(theory of movement) and the way of man is ethics. Motology and ethics meet in the educational practice. The educational practice is a part of pedagogy. The Conclution is that Mudo consist of motology, ethics, and pedagogy.

The Taekwondo theory appeared in the 1960`s. The early theory of Taekondo was “non-contextual”, because the theory have nothing to do with the real phenomenon of Taekondo. The theory contributed to justified the historical and philosophical value of Taekwondo. Therefore man can say this theory as a “official theory for Taekwondo instiution”. The second phase of the developing process began with the critics of the non-contextual Taekwondo Theory. The focus of critics is non-contextual character of the “official theory for the Taekwondo institution”. The new theory emphasized the real relation between theory and practice of Taekwondo. Man can say this theory as a “alternative Taekwondo theory”. But the relation which the alternative theory suggested, is very simple. The real phenomenon of Teakwondo in the modern high differentiated society appears very multiple. The theory which wants to explain the multiple phenomenon as that must to be “polv-contextual”.
