        암모니아를 이용한 무탄소 수소 생산 기술 개발 현황

        The role of hydrogen in enabling energy sector megatrends, such as decarbonization, decentralization, and digitalization, is steadily becoming increasingly important. Korean presented the Hydrogen Economy Roadmap early this year, as a first step for the country to express its commitment to becoming a hydrogen-based economy. In consideration of the Hydrogen Economy Roadmap’s estimation that the supply of hydrogen will sharply increase in 2030, a plan has been proposed to import hydrogen from overseas to ensure a stable supply. Technologies that can liquefy and convert hydrogen into liquid organic compounds such as toluene and ammonia, and store and transport them in large amounts, are currently under development to ensure that hydrogen can be safely imported into Korea. In particular, ammonia has a higher hydrogen storage density per unit volume than liquefied hydrogen, and it can be easily liquefied under the conditions of room temperature and an operating pressure of 8 atm. At present, ammonia is considered to be the most effective hydrogen carrier via the utilization of established infrastructures for transport and storage. Furthermore, when ammonia is decomposed, it only produces nitrogen and hydrogen, which are not harmful to the environment; this means that its products are eco-friendly. Herein, we reported the research programs on ammonia as hydrogen carrier in Japan, America, EU and Korea as well as the status of technological development.
