The lithium polymer battery which was applied to the railway vehicle has drawbacks of low-temperature characteristics and price compared to the lithium-ion battery, but it shows that the safety and reliability especially in the risk of explosion are relatively higher than the lithium-ion battery. In spot of the unreasonable aspects price, It has excellent performance stability, safety and maintainability and also has a strength that exceeds the price in terms of efficient. In addition, the lithium polymer battery has the BMS to prevent overcharge and over-discharge and then manage the battery. Protection operation circuit is constituted by a system that constantly monitors the voltage, current, and temperature. Throughout the study, such as temperature change of battery cell due to the temperature rise in a scorching summer of the lithium polymer battery, discharge performance and the operation of the safety protection circuit in operation which are applied to urban railway vehicles of Seoul Metro was confirmed reliability and safety.
