This study investigates system performances of a daylight dimming control installed in a large open-plan office space with a curtain wall structure. Under a variety of daylight conditions, computer simulations were performed for two zones of the office space which are facing east and west. Results indicate that the changes of photosensor illuminances were strongly influenced by the direct component of daylight under clear and intermediate sky. Overcast sky was a weak contributor to the changes due to diffused components of daylight. For the majority of time periods under all sky conditions, the dimming control system overshot a target illuminance of 750 lx due to insufficient dimmed levels. Reasonable lighting energy savings were achieved under clear and intermediate sky conditions. Overcast sky was not a favorable condition for lighting energy savings due to insufficient daylight. Strong linear correlations existed between desktop and photosensor illuminances by daylight under all sky conditions. Statistical test results imply that reasonable reductions of error variance can be achieved for the correlations.

This study examines the application of a daylight dimming control system to four perimeter zones in openplan office space. Computer simulations using Radiance were performed for each space under overcast sky conditions. Results indicate that the differences between maximum and minimum daylight illuminance on desktop ranged from 30.9 lx to 79.8 lx due to the effect of sky surface under overcast sky. The differences at photosensor illuminances varied from 95.2 lx to 175.3 lx. Overall, insufficient light output was provided by lighting fixtures in all zones and a target illuminance was not achieved. The control system applied under overcast sky succeeded to provide 600 lx of desktop illuminance. In this case, the lighting energy savings ranged from 32.76% to 68.93%. Prediction models indicate that strong linear correlations existed between desktop illuminances and desktop illuminances by daylight. The coefficients of determination for the models ranged from 0.8693 to 0.9625. The models were effective under the significance level of 0.01.
미술관 전시공간의 조명환경에 대한 시각적 인지 반응 분석

This study examines visitors’ visual and psychological perceptions for lighting environments in exhibition spaces of art galleries to provide useful data for improvement of lighting environments in galleries. Field measurements and surveys were performed in three small galleries under various illuminance and luminance conditions. Results indicate that the glare and visual stimulus by light were perceived less, when the average illuminance and the luminance were low and the uniformity ratios of illuminance were high. As the luminance became lower, participants have seen art paintings unclearly, perceived space monotonously and felt difficult to concentrate on paintings. Visual discomfort caused by light was influenced by the glare from floor and the sensation of eye fatigue. Overall satisfaction for the ambience by light was also relevant to visual fatigue, visual satisfaction and sufficient brightness of space.
