The purpose of this study is to see how a soccer player's performance orientation affects his/her self fulfillment. To this end, I analyzed 1) the relation between performance orientation and self fulfillment by taking into account sociodemographic characteristics and the effect of performance orientation on the degree of self fulfillment. Simple random sampling was performed to produce a sample of 250 players selected from those who registered with the K-League in 2002. 16 questionnaires deemed either untrustworthy or partially omitted were excluded, leaving 234 questionnaires for study. The questionnaire contained total 33 questions (i.e., 3 on general characteristics, 20 on performance orientation, and 9 on self fulfillment). Frequency analysis, t-test, Oneway-ANOVA, Scheffe test, correlation analysis and regression analysis were performed. The above methods and procedures produced the following results. First, training and order, which are sub-variables for performance orientation, had a statistically significant difference (5% range) regarding age while assignment orientation showed a statistically significant difference (5% range) with regard to education level. Second, goal realization, which is a sub-variable for self fulfillment, had a statistically significant difference (5% range) regarding age and education level. Thud, competence demonstration, which &d a significant effect on self orientation and training/order, showed 27.9%(R^(2)=.279) of explicability with regard to self fulfillment. Fourth, competence development, which had a significant effect on assignment orientation and training/order, resulted in 49.5%(R^(2)=.495) of explicability regarding self fulfillment. Fifth, goal realization, which had a significant effect on all variables including assignment orientation, self orientation and training/order, resulted in 40.2%(R^(2)=.402) of explicability regarding self fulfillment.

This study has been conducted to understand effects of practicing Kooksundo on one's mental health. The author divided mental health conditions into four categories to measure participants' mental health who practiced Kooksundo - fulfillment of social roles and self-trust, depression, sleeping disorder and anxiety, and life force. The sample for this study consists of total 380 participants - 200 who practice Kooksundo in Kooksundo clubs in local areas, workplaces, and public welfare centers and another 180 who do not practice Kooksundo at all. To detect potential differences in mental heath conditions between those who practice Kooksundo and those who do not, the author used T-test method in Windows SPSS program, and to understand the degree of effects on mental health depending on the stage of practicing Kooksundo, the author conducted Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) with the participants' practicing periods and Kooksundo grades being control variables. The test results are as follows: First, there was significant difference between participants practicing Kooksundo and other participants in "fulfillment of social roles and self-trust" category. However, among participants practicing Kooksundo, there was no statistically significant difference by practicing period or practicing level. Secondly, there was significant different between participants practicing Kooksundo and other participants in "depression" category. There was no statistically significant difference by practicing period or practicing level among participants practicing Kooksundo. However, with the significance probability of 0.05 or less, there was significant difference between participants in Jingi grade and other participant practicing Kooksundo. People practicing Jingi grade of Kooksundo have been found to benefit more than others who are practicing lower grades of Kooksundo. Thirdly, there was no significant difference between participants practicing Kooksundo and other participants in "sleeping disorder and anxiety" category. However, in terms of the standard deviation, participants practicing Kooksundo have been found to benefit from practicing Kooksundo in general. There was no statistically significant difference by practicing period or practicing level. Lastly, there was significant difference between participants practicing Kooksundo and other participants in "life force" category. With the significance probability of 0.05 or less, there was significant difference between participants in Jingi grade and other participant practicing Kooksundo. People practicing Jingi grade of Kooksundo have been found to benefit more than others who are practicing lower grades of Kooksundo. Given the above result, it is considered that practicing Kooksundo have effects on three out of four categories of social and psychological mental health - fulfillment of social roles and self-trust, depression, and the life force. Although no statistically significant difference was found between participants practicing Kooksundo and other participants in terms of effects on sleeping disorder and anxiety, it is assumed that Kooksundo has benefits on this field at some degree. The difference in effects on mental health by practicing period and grade was not statistically significant, but it was found that there was significant difference between participants in Jingi grade and other participant practicing Kooksundo with the significance probability of 0.05 or less. People practicing Jingi grade of Kooksundo have been found to benefit more than others who are practicing lower grades of Kooksundo. In conclusion, practicing Kooksundo is judged to have positive effects on social and psychological mental health in general, and in terms of the grade of Kooksundo, those who practice higher grade (ingi grade) in Kooksundo benefit more than those who practice lower grades in Kooksundo.
