과학기술이 세계정치를 구성하는 주요한 요인이었음에도 불구하고 오랫동안 국제정치이론들은 과학기술과 세계정치의 관계를 본격적으로 분석하지 않았다. 1990년대 이후 정보통신기술이 급속하게 발전하고 이로 인해 가시적인 사회변화들이 두드러지면서 국제정치학에서도 과학기술에 대한 관심이 증대하며 양자의 관계를 분석해야 한다는 요청이 증대되고 있다. 간헐적으로 이루어지던 과학기술과 세계정치에 관한 연구가 본격적으로 시작된 것은 1990년대 이후였고 문제제기 수준의 관심이 2010년대 이후부터는 뚜렷한 흐름으로 형성되면서 주제와 접근 방법이 다양해지고 있다. 하지만 여전히 세계정치연구에서 과학기술에 대한 관심은 주변에 머무르고 있어 향후 지속적인 발전을 위해 점검이 요청되는 상황이다. 본 글에서는 세계정치연구에서 과학기술이 어떻게 인식되고 분석되어 왔는지 흐름을 주요한 저작들을 통해 살펴보았다. 아울러 과학기술과 세계정치의 구성적 공동생산이라는 관점에서 주요 연구 어젠다를 분류하여 이를 중심으로 연구 현황을 검토하면서 향후 과학기술 세계정치 연구의 방향을 전망하였다. Although science & technology have been one of the major factors in constituting the global politics, the studies of international relations have not paid attention to the relationship between science & technology and global politics for a long time. With the rapid development of information and communication technology and its visible impact on social changes since the 1990s, the interest in the issues of science and technology has increased within the fields of international relations and the demand for analysis thereof has been increasing. Since the studies on the global politics of science & technology have begun in the 1990s, the volume of papers and books on this topic has been rapidly increasing and the approaches have become diversifying. From the perspective of constitutive co-production between science & technology and global politics, this article examined the current status of the researches on this topic through the major works. In addition, after categorizing the important research agendas into the three subjects, this study reviewed the previous analyses and looked out the prospects of the studies.
