노부오 세키네(Nobuo Sekine)의 作品世界 硏究 : 環境美術(環境彫刻) 作品을 中心으로

역사이래 예술은 꾸준히 인간의 삶과 직접적인 상관관계 속에서 발전을 거듭하여 왔다. 동양의 전통사상인 '자연관'과 서양 신과학의 공통된 뉴 패러다임인 '전일적 세계관(全一的世界觀)에 대한 관심으로 물질문명에 대한 반성과 자연중심주의의 경향으로 흐르고 있으며 미술도 예외는 아니다. 상호의존성과 상생을 강조하는 새로운 사상적 시대 흐름과 함께, 삶과 별개로 취급되어온 예술에 대한 회의가 대두되면서 인간과 환경을 합일된 공간으로 인식하는 환경미술(environmental art)이 다양하게 전개되고 있다. 현대미술에서 '총체적인 예술'의 대안으로 부상하고 있는 환경미술을 고찰하기 위하여 이사무 노구찌(Isamu Noguchi), 대니 카라반(Dani Karavan)등의 환경미술가들 중에서 노부오 세키네 (Nobuo Sekine)의 환경 미술을 사례로 설정하여 고찰하였다. 자연현상에 대한 남다른 감동을 느끼며 어린 시절을 보낸 세키네는 현대 미술의 전위적인 활동들이 활발히 진행될 무렵 대학에서 위상기하학과 동양의 신비주의에 관심을 가지며 예술에 대한 열정을 보인다. 특히 선(禪)사상과 도가의 노장(老莊)사상은 그의 사상적 기반이 되었다. 1968년 대학원 유화과를 졸업하자마자 세키네는 입체적인 회화작품을 출품한 공모전에서 조각부문 콩쿨상을 수상하여 조각가의 길로 접어들었고, 몇 달 뒤 모노파(mono-ha)의 계기가 되었던 <위상-대지(位相-大地)>라는 작품으로, 이론정립자인 화가 이우환과 함께 모노파의 중심인물로 미술계에 두각을 나타낸다. 1970년 제35회 베니스 비엔날레에 일본대표로 참가하였으며 예술작품이 사회적 환경과 일체화 된 유럽의 문화에 충격을 받고 작업에 대한 원초적 고민을 안고 귀국한다. 예술의 사회적 역할에 대한 의지를 다지며 모든 사물은 하나로 통한다는 칠학적 사고로 회화, 조각뿐 아니라 환경미술도에 큰 관심을 보이며 왕성한 활동을 펼치고 있다. 모든 사물은 유기적으로 연결되어 있다는 전일적 세계관(全一的 世界觀)을 바탕으로 삶에 대한 유연한 사고와 예술적 의지를 삶속에서 실천하고 있으며, 그 결과로 그만의 작품세계가 자연스럽게 도출되었다. 오브제가 놓이는 공간 주변과의 상호작용을 고려하여 역사, 문화 등의 환경적 제 요소들을 분석하는 세키네의 환경미술을 통해 총체적인 환경미술의 가능성을 발견할 수 있을 것이다. 세키네의 작품세계를 크게 회화, 조각 그리고 환경미술로 나눌 수 있다. 환경미술은 다시 오브제적 모뉴먼트(object monument)와 시스템적 설치(systematic installation)로 세분되어지는데, 시스템적 설치는 조각이 오브제에서 더 나아가 환경속으로 합일화(the process of unity)되어가는 하나의 생명체로 인식하는 개념이다. 인간을 위한 사회적 활동이라는 대 전제 아래, 조각의 예술적 순수성을 바탕으로, 관련 분야와 상호보완적인 협력을 통해 상생(相生)의 우주순환원리(cosmos)에 부응하는 철학적 작품세계를 펼쳐가야 할 것이다. Since history, art has constantly repeated its development in direct correlation with human life. It is flowing into the tendencies of the reflection on material civilization and naturalism with the concern about the view of nature, the Oriental traditional idea, and the world view with the whole mind, a new paradigm common in the Occidental new science, and even fine art is not an exception to it. With new age flow of ideas stressing interdependency and the superstition of deciding on the unity between men and women, environmental art recognizing man and environment as united space is being developed in various ways while the skepticism about art which has been treated apart from life comes to the front. In order to investigate environmental art surfacing as an alternative for 'general art' in modern art, I set up as an example the environmental art of nobuo Sekine among environmental artists of Isamu Noguchi, Dani Karavan and so on and investigated it. Sekine spending his childhood feeling extraordinary impression for natural phenomena shows his passion for art while concerned with topology and Oriental mysticism in his college around at the time when avant-garde activities of modern art would be actively progressed. In particular, the idea of Zen and Taoist Taoism became the bases of his ideas. As soon as he graduated in the department of oil painting from a graduate school in 1968, Sekine set in the way of a sculptor by being awarded concours prize in the department of sculpture in the exhibition of works collected publicly in which he submitted cubic works of painting, and he cuts a conspicuous figure in fine art circles as a central figure of mono-ha with Painter Uhwan Lee, one who establishes a theory, with the work of <Phase-the Earth> which became the motive for mono-ha some months later. In 1970, he attended the 35th Venice Biennale as a Japanese representative and goes home with the primitive agony for his working, shocked by European culture in which works of art have been identified with social environment. Strengthening the will for the social role of art, he is spreading vigorous activities, showing his great concern not only with painting and sculpture but with environmental art with the thought that all things lead to one. He is practicing flexible thought and artistic will for life in his life based on the world view with the whole mind that all things are organically connected, and, as the result, his own world of work has been naturally derived. You will be able to discover the possibility of general environmental art through the environmental art of Sekine who analyzes all environmental elements such as history, natural objects and culture by considering the interaction with surroundings of the space in which object is laid. His world of work can be broadly divided into painting, sculpture and environmental art, and the third is again subdivided into object monument and systematic installation, and the latter is the concept of being recognized as one living body in which sculpture is being united into object, further, environment. Under the major premise of social activity for man, based on the artistic purity of sculpture, he will have to spread philosophical world of work corresponding to the principle of cosmically circulating superstition of deciding on the unity between men and women through complementary cooperation with related fields.
