Vol.0 No.21
Taking into account the timely tokens (signum temporis) of the fundamentals of theology, it is impossible for us to avoid considering the research of postmodernism when reflecting on the religious faith of lay believers (sensus fidei). Gilles Deleuze’s analysis of the properties of the irregularities of the gaps in “the fold” (Le Pli) led him to discover the existence of the theory of multiplicity (Multiplicite). Deleuze called the existence that stems from potential and reality “the multiplicity.” He also defined the special characteristics of the very important point as “the point of singularity”. Deleuze’s worldview leads him to establish the basics of theology as “the multiple identities of the deity.” The existence of the theory of multiplicity helps to explain the method (modus)by which God increases and discovers a way to explain the deity’s existence. Deleuze’s theory shows the properties of religious God’s actions, i.e. human actions not dictated by knowledge. God’s concealment and post-concealment show that God has no choice but to obscure and obfuscate the proof of the deity’s existence. Evidence of God’s existence is given not through “belief” but rather “knowing”. Expecting positive and distinctive proof is a sign of wanting “to know” and not “to believe”. Belief is not expressed through reason but rather given out of Grace. Levinas’ theory of ethics as the first philosophy tries to move philosophy in the direction of an ethical worldview but modernism ′ s emphasis on reason and free subjectivity begs to be corrected. The modem rational subject is an active subject, but Levinas’ subject incorporates passivity leading to an inclusion of reverence and piety. Subjectivity should not be one of oppression by way of violence or controlbased on reason but rather a responsible and servile subjectivity based on charity, servility, and loyalty. There is no limit to the sense of responsibility for other people and it is expected to be asymmetrical. For Levinas, God is an infinite beingand also the great Other at the same time, capable of orchestrating an epiphany on the faces of orphans, widows, and wanderers. By stressing the dark side of fold in a subtle way, Deleuze rejected Descartes’ desire for c1ear evidence and proof. on the other hand, by criticizing idea-centered epistemeand emphasizing the practical phronesis as the true knowledge, Levinas deconstructed Descartes’ ego-centered “cogito”. Deleuze focuses on details and intrinsic factors while Levinas emphasizes the transcendence of scope. Based on multiculturality in this glocal age, if Deleuze’s philosophy of difference and Levinas’ ethics of the Other are well applied, “a new indigenied theology” which includes”, “a multicultural theology”, “a multicultural nomad theology” and “a multicultural theology of the Other” can be established.
