N/A Squeeze casting has advantages to improve mechanical properties of nonferrous castings without losing high productivity. Sound pore free structure makes it possible to be subjected to heat treatment and welding. This process became popular to produce lighter automobile parts alternating cast iron parts. It has, however, two disadvantages of segregation and scattered structure due to the solidified layers in sleeve. In this study segregation behavior of squeeze cast Al-7%Si-0.3%Mg alloy bars was investigated using HVSC machine under various injection conditions. Degree of segregation decreased with injection pressure and effect of injection velocity on it was small. Segregation mode of solute was strongly governed by solidification mode and flow pattern.

In this paper, a 300 W LED projection lighting system for landscape lighting applications was designed and fabricated. Detailed descriptions of the system design were given. Optical and electrical characteristics of the fabricated system, including total luminous flux, luminous efficacy, electric power consumption, and viewing angle, were measured. Future plans for utilizing and commercializing the developed system were presented.

We investigated the thermal effects induced by pulsed laser absorption in an optical medium. In particular, the dependences of maximum temperature increment and decay time constant on the laser pulse width were examined. As the laser pulse width was increased, the maximum temperature increment was decreased and the decay time constant was increased. It was found that the temporal behaviors of the temperature increment could be predicted by the convolution of the response function of the system with a very short laser pulse and a square pulse function corresponding to the laser pulse width.
