This study analyzed the domestic patent trends of brassiere to provide fundamental data for promising technology. Relevant patents were searched by inputting the key words of “brassiere” and IPC code “A41C” on patent information search service of KIPRIS. A search for bras patents from 1985 to 2019 revealed 533 registered applications out of the total 744 listed. The IPC code with the highest portion (40%) was A41C3/00 (brassiere), followed by A41C3/14 (forming inserts, 21.6%), and A41C3/12 (component parts, 13.3%). To arrange the guidelines of the content of brassiere patents, we carried out a qualitative technology analysis on 744 patents, to extract 850 technology cases applied in patents. From the technological features of each case, main categories were classified into two parts (function and structure) and function was divided into 7 sub-categories that included physiological comfort, physical comfort, utility, healthcare, appearance, and economic value. As for the structure, cup showed the highest portion (37.9%), followed by pad (16.5%), and wings (13.2%). From the aspect of function, appearance showed the highest portion (30.8%), followed by usability (22.2%), physiological comfort (14.6%), physical comfort (14.6%), economic value (10.7%), and health care (7.4%).

This study aimed to develop functional underwear for elderly women in their sixties in terms of good fit, wear comfort and body temperature regulation. To satisfy elderly women`s physical and metabolical needs, an automatic temperature control system via PCM treatment was applied. Underwear pattern was produced by producing body surface replica, which was derived from 3D body parametric model. Differential ratios of outline length and area between 3D surface and 2D plane were 1.4% and 0.5%, respectively. The reduction rate was determined as 10% through the expert`s evaluation. PCM treated fabric showed higher Q-max, meaning that it can facilitate the thermal transition in hot situation. Moreover, it also showed higher insulation to preserve heat and keep warm microclimate in a cold weather. Heat distribution measurements on various body parts revealed that the temperature after PCM treatment was significantly higher. The clothing pressure after 10% pattern reduction showed higher before reduction, at the same time, even lower than the comfort clothing pressure range of 5~10 gf/㎠, implying that experimental garment of this research is acceptable in terms of clothing pressure. Evaluation results on the comfort to move in various motions proved that adequate clothing pressure improved the wear comfort in various motions.

This research was designed to figure out the perception and attitude of university students toward urban outdoor wear and to provide the guidelines for product quality improvement using Kano model. A total of 270 responses were analyzed by SPSS 20.0 through frequency and factor analysis. Respondents’ levels for outdoor activity & outdoor products possession being still low, steady growth in urban outdoor wear market is expected. A total of eight quality factors were identified through factor analysis; suitability, production quality, functionality, ease of care, fabric performance, portability, fashionability, and symbolism. Based on Kano model, quality factors of urban outdoor wear were categorized into three groups: one-dimensional; indifferent; and must-be quality factor. It was found that consumers were satisfied with urban outdoor wear only when it meets the needs for suitability for body types and ease of care, meaning that manufactures should be cautious not to lose these features. Being must-be quality factor, production quality(form stability, quality of subsidiary materials), and fabric performance such as colorfastness should be basically satisfied. The relative importance of each quality feature on satisfaction/dissatisfaction was investigated using CSC(customer satisfaction coefficient). Based on the CSC, every item was classified again. Attractive quality features with large CSC were shown in suitability factor. Must-be quality features with small CSC were mainly shown in functionality and fabric performance factors. These findings imply that manufactures of urban outdoor wear should not only maintain the production quality but also focus on suitability features to differentiate their product with previous products.
