역사적 연구방법을 통한 현대 영어교육 형성기의 영어교과서 분석

The purpose of this study is to review the English textbooks in the formation stage of the contemporary educational system in Korea. The study sets the formation stage as the period from August 1945 to February 1963, which is the period after the liberation from the Japanese government until the revision of the First National Curriculum. For the design of the study using a historical research, the concept and the process of historical research were presented by summarizing relevant literatures as theoretical background. In accordance with the process, the study stated two research problems: one on the connections and differences between the English educations in the pre- and post liberation period; and the other on the changes among the English textbooks in the formation stage. The research was proceeded by collecting historical materials and analyzing information from source materials, through which some facts were found as follows: English education focusing on the preparation for examinations had been influenced by the Japanese education during the colonial period. After the liberation, the education was focused on getting rid of Japanese influences, but consequently, it seemed that the American influences started to fill the vacuum. There had been significant changes in the explicit aspects of English textbooks in the formation stage, despite little change in the aspect of content of the materials.
