The employment of networked control systems(NCSs) where control systems are interconnected by communication networks is a major trend in modem industry using control applications. The networked-induced delays are inevitable in NCSs and they may deteriorate the control performance and system stability. Therefore, it is necessary to design an appropriate controller in order to compensate the time delays. The objective of this paper is to design a controller using a time delay model for desired control performance of NCSs. LQR optimal controllers are designed using the time delay model. The control performance is validated through a case study.
Modeling a time delay model to analyze network-induced delays for networked control systems

Networked control systems(NCSs) have been used in many areas because of their advantages such as low cost of installation, ease of maintenance, higher reliability, and greater flexibility. However, the network-induced delays, which may degrade the system performance and may cause system instability, are unavoidable in the NCSs. Therefore, it is necessary to consider and analyze the network-induced delays when an NCS is designed. In this paper, a periodic time delay model for an NCS is proposed. Time delay attributes of an NCS were defined and analyzed. The stability of an NCS was analyzed by using the proposed time delay model.
