        The 2015 Clinical Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of HIV/AIDS in HIV-Infected Koreans

        The Committee for Clinical Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of HIV/AIDS of the Korean Society for AIDS was founded in 2010. The first edition of the Korean guidelines was published in 2011, and revised in 2013. The recommendations in the guideline contain important information for physicians working with HIV/AIDS in the clinical field. However, due to the rapid discovery of new data in the field of HIV and the evolution of the clinical environment in Korea, it has become necessary to revise the guideline again. This guideline aims to provide up-to-date comprehensive information regarding the diagnosis and management of HIV/AIDS in Korea. This guideline deals with issues regarding the initial assessment of newly diagnosed patients, timing of antiretroviral treatment (ART) initiation, preferred ART regimens in treatment-naïve as well as treatment-experienced patients and special populations such as HBV/HCV co-infected patients, or pregnant women. A brief summary of the revised guidelines and key changes to the original version of the guidelines are summarized below.

        There are several clinical guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of HIV/AIDS which are used extensively in other countries. However, the implementation of such guidelines is not assured due to the currently available situations for the diagnostic tests and antiretroviral drugs in Korea. Therefore, the Committee for Clinical Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of HIV/AIDS of The Korean Society for AIDS was founded in 2010 to develop an optimal guidelines which can be directly applied in Korea. This guideline aims to provide comprehensive information regarding the diagnosis and management of HIV/AIDS in Korea. The recommendations contain important information for physicians working with HIV/AIDS in actual clinical fields. The regular revision of the guideline will be done according to the change of the available situations for the diagnosis and treatment of HIV/AIDS.

        The 2015 Clinical Guidelines for the Treatment and Prevention of Opportunistic Infections in HIV-Infected Koreans: Guidelines for Opportunistic Infections

        The Committee for Clinical Guidelines for the Treatment and Prevention of Opportunistic Infections of the Korean Society for AIDS was founded in 2011. The first edition of the Korean guidelines was published in 2012. The guideline recommendations contain important information for physicians working with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) in the clinical field. It has become necessary to revise the guidelines due to new data in this field. These guidelines aim to provide up-to-date, comprehensive information regarding the treatment and prevention of opportunistic infections in HIV-infected Koreans. These guidelines deal with several common opportunistic infections, including pneumocystis pneumonia, tuberculosis, cryptococcal meningitis, etc. A brief summary of the revised guidelines is provided below. Recommendations are rated using the same system used in the previous guidelines.

        Summary of Guidelines for the Use of Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis for HIV in Korea

        There are several guidelines for the use of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) which are used in other countries. However, the implementation of such guidelines in each country should be modified according to the country's clinical and epidemiological situation. Therefore, The Korean Society for AIDS founded a committee in 2016 to develop guidelines for the use of PrEP for HIV that are optimal for Korea's clinical and epidemiological situation. These guidelines aim to provide comprehensive information for PrEP implementation in Korea. The recommendations contain important information for physicians working to prevent HIV infection in actual clinical fields. The committee will regularly review and revise the guidelines based on changes in PrEP administration and HIV prevention practices.

Therefore, the Committee for Clinical Guidelines for the Treatment and Prevention of Opportunistic Infections in HIV-infection Koreans of The Korean Society for AIDS was founded in 2011 for development of optimal guidelines that can be directly applied in Korea. These guidelines aim to provide comprehensive information regarding treatment and prevention of opportunistic infections in Korea. The recommendations contain important information for physicians working with HIV/AIDS in actual clinical fields. Regular revision of the guidelines will be performed according to changes in clinical situations for opportunistic infections in HIV-infected Koreans.
