倫理學의 基本問題 : Frankena의 'Ethics'를 中心으로

This thesis is intended to examine the fundamental problems of ethics, referring to 'Ethics' written by William K. Frankena, and to tell in what aspects such Western ethical thought resting on the scientific analytical method could be supplemented by Eastern (traditional) ethical thought resting on a kind of intuitional method. W.K.Frankena, Professor of University of Michigan, deals with the fundamental problems of ethics in his 'Ethics', applying the method and logic of linguistic analysis, a kind of new method of philosophy. Ethics resting on philosophy of analysis deals with chiefly the problems of meta-ethics butin Frenkena's 'Ethics' many kinds of problems, from the fundamental ones of the traditional normative ethics to those of mota-ethics, are dealt with, and thus his 'Ethics' is well known as a good introductory book of ethics. Moreoevr, his 'Ethics' dose not merely introduce and analyse theories of many philosophers but also provides with his own views and so it is more than a good introductory book. Nevertheless, it is certain that it is a kind of textbook rather than a professional work of ethics. Accordingly, th aim of this thesis is not to study the problems of ethics professionally but to deal with the fundamental problems of ethics generally. In other words, as the ethics of analytical philosophy is not still introduced sufficiently in our country, this thesis, to begin with, is intended to summarize theories about the fundamental problems which analytical philosophy proclaims, and then to suggest the direction of supplementing such theories from the standpoint of Eastern traditional thoughts.

Last year a thesis entitled "The Understanding and Criticism of Theology of Liberation" was published in 'Theses Colleetion Vol. XIX' edited by Won kwang University. In that thesis I had tried to outline and criticize the subject matters of theology of liberation. In this thesis, therefore, I need not explain the subject contained in that volume, but try to suggest an alternative theory of theology of liberation. In 1st chapter the ideal background of theology of liberation is outlined. In 2nd chapter the ideal characteristics of theology of liberation are described. In 3rd chapter I try to develope the alternative theory surmounting the weak point of theology of liberation, on the basis of the standpoint of the Christian Realism.

The aim of this thesis is to suggest a principle which supplements the scientific method in presenting the desirable ground of 'dicision' that is necessary for establishing the ethical fundamental principle. This thesis consists in three parts;the first part deals with the problem of 'decision' brought forth in meta ethics, the second one does with the principle of 'Dhyana' and the third one does with concluing consideration -how the principle of Dhyana contributes to making a desirable 'decision'. In the frist part, in order to clarify the line of connection coming up to the problem of 'decision', I will try to summarize R.B.Perry's naturalistic theory, A.J.Ayer's emotive theroy and C.L.Stevenson's neo-emotive theory. Thereafter I will consider how the problem of 'decision' is brought forth in ethical theory, according to R.M. Hare's theory. In the second part, I will try to give an outline of 'Dhyana' thought, putting great emphasis on the principle of 'Meditation adn Wisdom' (定慧=Samadhi-Prajna). As I cannot examine the Dhyana history for 2500 years in this restricted paper, I will select some representative Dhyana Masters and examine their thoughts that is to say. I will examine Master Dharma(達磨)'s 'Entry by the Truth and Entry by Conduct' (理入·行入)-thought, the 6th patriarch Haenueng(慧能)'s 'the not-two-but-one of Meditationadn Wisdom' (定慧一體 )-thought, and Dhyana Master Bojo's 'the Equilibrium of Alertness and Calmness(Jnana and Prasama 惺寂等持)-thought. Thereafter, I will attempt to interpret the principle of 'Medifatioin and Wisdom' from the contemporary standpoint. In the third part, I will consider how the prineiple of 'Meditation and Wisdom' can supplement the intellectual method in presenting the desirable ground of 'decision' which is the ultimate measure for establishing the ethical fundamental principle. R.M.Hare presents some conditions-universalizability, prescriptivity, facts, imagination and inclination-as the basic ground of 'decision'. In the other conditions except 'imagination' there are not problems which we cannot solve theoretically, though there are some difficulties to overcome practically. But in 'inclination' there is a difficult problem which we cannot solve theoretically, that is to say there is a problem how we should transcend many a difference of human inclination. In considering coclusively, I will examine what the principle of 'Meditation and Wisdom' can contribute to solve the problem.

In this thesis it is intended to clear what the fundamental spirit of Korean ethical view-point which had ben keept in the hearts of Korean people was. In chapterⅠit is considered what kind of god the Great God, Master of Heaven which appeared in the Tangoon-myth, Korean origial myth was and what kind of spiritual state, the spiritual ecstasy, fundamental emotion in the myth was. In chapter Ⅱ it is considered what the fundamental spirit of esthical view-point which had been influenced by ancient Buddhism or Confucianism, imported roligion was. In chaper Ⅲ the fundamental spirit of Korean ethical view-point considered in chapterⅠand Ⅱ being summarized briefly, it is considered what the fundemental stand-point of the present scientific ethics is and, then, how both the fundamental spiritof Korean traditional ethical view-point and the stand-point of the present scientific ethics can harmonize well each other.
