개인은 역사와 전통, 문화가 버무려진 결정체이다. 현대사회는 개인이 집단의 목적성을 뛰어넘어 세계문화를 주도하는 시대이며 디자인은 사회, 문화 다방면에 영향을 끼친다. 그리고 타자에게 이미지화되어 형상으로 기억된다. 문화적 배경이 다른 세계화 상황에서 공감이 가능한 디자인은 문화정체성과 가치관의 확대, 사상이 합의된 체계적이고 깊이 있는 탐구가 바탕이 되어야 하며 이러한 디자인은 세계문화를 주도한다. 한국디자인에서 전통과 문화정체성에 대한 연구는 디자인이라는 개념이 도입된 이래 끊임없이 진행되어 왔다. 그러나 디자인에서 전통에 대한 시선은 피상적이고 감상적 해석에 치중되어 있으며, 이미지 차용은 단절된 시대적 배경과 현대문화와 전통요소의 이질감을 극복해야 하는 문제를 안고 있다. 본 연구는 시대별 전 계층의 보편적 가치로서, 디자인적 기호성과 조형성이 내재되어 있는 전통요소인 길상문양을 통하여 한국디자인 정체성의 현재를 파악하고, 길상문양을 활용한 현대디자인이 고정화된 문화원형이란 이미지에서 벗어나 문화의 다양성과 가변성을 포용하여 현대적 조형미를 함의한 한국의 이미지로 확장을 위한 방향성을 제시하고자 하였다. 첫째, 기호적, 조형적, 다의적 해석을 통한 디자인 및 스토리텔링을 통해 창조해 낼 수 있다. 둘째, 현대의 사상, 문화와 조화를 이루며 재창조되는 과정을 거쳐야 하며 셋째, 문화 소통의 시대에 걸 맞는 홍보와 마케팅이 뒷받침 되어야 할 것이다. An individual is a crystal mixed with history, tradition, and culture, modern society is an era where the individual leads the global culture beyond the purpose of group, and design is remembered as a shape by becoming an image upon others by influencing various fields of society and culture. The design with sympathy in global situation from different cultural background should be based on systematic and in depth research based on the expansion of culture identity and values, and the agreement with the ideology, thus, design leads the world culture. Researches on tradition and culture identity in Korean design have been continuously conducted since the concept of design had been adopted. However, in design, view on tradition has been focused on superficial and sentimental interpretation, and image borrowing has a problem to overcome the background of discontinued period and difference between modern culture and traditional factors. Accordingly, this research aimed at comprehending the present of Korean design identity through lucky sign patterns, traditional factors included with design symbolization and formativeness as the universal value of the overall classes, furthermore, investigating expansion to Korean image implying modern formative beauty beyond the image of fixed cultural original form, by embracing diversity and variability of culture. First, It can create design and storytelling through symbolic, for native and multiple meaned interpretation. Second, It must get through process which is recreated, keeping balance with idea of present day and culture. Third, publicity and making suitable for era of cultural communication must be supported.
