In the present study, we employed the laser scanning confocal microscopy to visualize the entire blood flow field with 1x1 μm2 spatial resolution. Based on the confocal microscopic image of RBCs, we evaluated the velocity field. The rat’s blood was supplied into a 300-micron glass tube in vitro. The line scanning rate of confocal microscopy was 15 kHz for a 500x500 pixels2 image. As a result, the RBC itself can be used as tracer particle directly to get the velocity vector field of blood flow by performing particle image velocimetry (PIV) technique.
