대학 교양교육에 수어 교육의 필요성에 대한 일고(一考)

본 연구는 현대사회에 공존하는 다양한 문화 중 하나인 농문화 속 수어에 대한 이해와 대학 교양교육에서 수어 교육의 필요성에 대한 일고(一考)이다. 2016년 2월에 ‘한국 수화언어법’이 제정되면서 수어가 농인이 사용하는 제1의 언어로 농인의 고유한 언어로서 한국어와 동등한 자격을 갖는 언어로 인정을 받았지만, 그 실효성에 있어서는 큰 역할이나 효과를 보지 못하다가 COVID19 감염증 보도 과정에서 농인들이 신속 정확하게 관련 정보를 전달받을 수 있도록 확대 시행되었다. 또한 실시간 TV 정부 브리핑과정에서 수어 통역사의 위치 변화를 통해 농인들의 사회 위치가 주변부에서 중심부로 이동하고 있음을 볼 수 있다. 이와 더불어 농인의 사회 참여와 청각장애 학생들의 통합교육 확대 및 고등교육 기회 확대에 따른 수어 통역 서비스의 요구가 점차 커지고, 전문성과 다양성이 요구되면서 수어 통역사의 역할과 수어에 대한 관심과 중요성이 제기되고 있으며 수어를 배우고자 하는 사람뿐만 아니라 수어를 가르치는 곳도 점점 늘어나고 있다. 하지만 이러한 관심에도 불구하고 수어 교육에 대한 이해는 매우 개인적인 차원에서 머무는 것이 현실이고, 여전히 대학교에서 이루어지는 수어 교육은 개인의 취미 생활 등의 형태로 치부되며 환원되고, 모든 학생이 선택할 수 있는 ‘수어’ 교양강좌는 특수 목적을 가진 대학 이외에는 거의 없는 상황이다. 이러한 상황에서 가톨릭 이념의 확산을 위해 노력하는 대구가톨릭대학교에서 수어 교육에 대한 인식이 없다는 것은 큰 문제이다. 이에 왜 대구가톨릭대학교에 수어 교육이 필요하며, 수어 교육의 방법에 대해 인근 대구대학교의 사례를 통해 살펴보고자 한다. This study is an understanding of sign language in Deaf culture, one of the various cultures that coexist in modern society, and the necessity of sign language education in university liberal arts education. With the enactment of the “Korean Sign Language Act” in February 2016, sign language was recognized as the first language used by farmers as a language equivalent to Korean, but it did not play a significant role or effect in its effectiveness, and expanded to allow the Deaf to receive related information quickly and accurately. In addition, it can be seen that the social position of the Deaf are moving from the periphery to the center through the change in the position of sign language interpreters during the real-time TV government briefing. In addition, the demand for sign language interpretation services is growing due to the participation of the Deaf in society, the expansion of integrated education and higher education opportunities, and the interest and importance of sign language interpreters are increasing. However, despite this interest, understanding of sign language education remains on a very personal level, and sign language education in universities is still dismissed as a form of personal hobby and is rarely given to all students. In this situation, it is a big problem that there is no awareness of sign language education in Daegu Catholic University, which strives to spread Catholic ideology. Therefore, why sign language education is necessary at Daegu Catholic University, and I would like to examine the method of sign language education through the case of nearby Daegu University.
