In this study authors presented direction of development of star management through studying positive as well as negative aspect of such management.
First of all most urgent thing is fostering professional manpower in this field. More effort should be exerted for star management with professional spirit and sense of responsibility as professionals. Second, there should be improvement in the system. Currently in the cultural industry the system for effective operation of star management is very feeble. Due to problems in star management system lacking power for self viability by stars is prominent. Therefore it is necessary to establish and use objective data base. Third, there should be more change in contractual relationship. It should be changed either as salary system seen in Japan or Hollywood type contract or some supplementary form by freeing itself from one sided contract focusing on stars or contracts centered around management company. Fourth, by improving casting practise whereby selling is made in a mode of adding it up to something or mode of package casting through appearance of big scale management companies should be avoided. Fifth, there should be more stringent regulation on monopolistic practise. Tyranny of management companies which ignore viewers right of choice should be forestalled. Finally, as regards trend toward conglomeration and in connection with making profits the financial structure of existing small and medium scale management companies is deteriorating under impact of trend toward conglomeration. Accordingly there should a proper regulation on scale of such companies and cooperative relationship between big management companies and small and medium scale ones which is essential should be encouraged.
In short, in cultural industry star management industry in Korea is adroitly using such industries of the United States and Japan. As regards such practise broadcasting companies, production companies and government should free themselves from approach eyeing for short-term economic benefits only but through active intervention more long-term development should be aimed.
