Oil resource exhaustion and oil price rise require alternative energy source for automotive vehicles. One of these alternatives are Hybrid Electric Vehicle(HEV). The main energy transferring path of these vehicle is high voltage electric cable system which requires quite different properties from conventional low voltage electric cable system for automotive. We have developed high voltage cable system for HEV applying shielded cable. This paper handles various issues of high voltage cable systems especially in view point of cable design, specification, material as conductor and compound. The cable properties of withstand voltage, flame-retardancy, abrasion resistance, withstand low-temperature and heat-ageing were tested. The test method of cable flexibility is developed and test results show excellent flexibility. EMC test were performed under SAE J551-5, MIL C85485/6 and CISPR PUB 12 standards. The shield-efficiency was investigated with the different braided densities and showed that minimum density should be 70%. Also, temperature-rising test at 80℃ surrounding condition and short-term excess-current test was performed to see the cable sustainability under extraordinary operating consideration.
