본 논문은 욥이란 인물을 통해 하나님께서 자신의 모습을 어떠한 섭리로서 우리에게 보여 주시는지 그 분의 심오한 말씀을 통한 이해와 가르침의 내용에 관한 연구이다. 욥기에 나타난 욥의 고난은 죄의 결과로 인한 인과응보적인 고난이 아닌 천상회의에 의한 욥의 경건성의 시험에서 온 고난이다. 따라서 욥의 고난은 지혜 전통의 가장 지배적인 인과응보적 고난관을 부인한다. 또한 욥기는 인간이 고통의 한 가운데서 어떻게 하나님을 설명할 수 있는가에 대해 답변을 제시하는 책이다. 이 논문은 제 1 장 서론, 제 2 장 성경에 나타난 고난, 제 3 장 욥기에 나타난 고난, 제 4장 고난에 대한 신학적 이해, 제 5장 결론의 순서로 전개 되었다. 논문의 간략한 내용은 다음과 같다. 먼저 고난을 통하여 하나님께서 우리에게 알리고자 하는 것은 욥을 통하여 인간 속에 있는 종교적, 신학적인 사고와 그 주위의 친구들의 비판을 가지고 어떻게 욥이 하나님의 섭리를 받아들여서 인생의 문제를 해결하는가 하는 방안을 제시하고자 한다. 욥기서는 전통적인 인과응보의 고난관을 훨씬 뛰어넘는 심오한 사상을 전개한다. 바로 대속적 고난관을 통하여 하나님을 만나고 고난 속에서 하나님을 보게 된다. 욥은 자신의 문제를 지혜로 해결하지는 못했지만, 하나님이 자신의 문제를 해결해주시는 분이라는 확신을 얻게 된다. 하나님을 만남으로서 욥의 영혼은 하나님의 전능하심과 무한한 자유로움을 맛보게 된다. 우리는 욥을 통하여 하나님은 천지를 주관하시고 지금도 역사하시는 것을 배운다. 우리에게 고난이 닥칠 때 우리는 왜라는 질문보다는 그분을 믿고 그분의 섭리에 완전히 맡기는 믿음이 있어야 할 것이다. 따라서 우리는 고난 뒤에서 하나님은 사랑과 은혜로 역사하시고, 고난의 비밀을 통하여 인간에게 오셔서 고난 속에 감추어진 하나님을 이해하는 것이 이 논문의 결론이다. This thesis represents the study of the understanding and teaching of God through His profound words, which were revealed to us by His Providence through a biblical figure Job. Job's suffering written in the Book of Job is not the result of his sins in the form of retributive justice, but the result of heavenly meeting at which the test of Job's devotion was decided. Therefore, the suffering of Job does not belong to the view of retributive justice which is dominant in the wisdom tradition. Also Book of Job gives the answer for the men's question regarding how one can explain God in the middle of suffering. This thesis consists of chapters : chapter 1, introduction, chapter 2, sufferings in the Bible, chapter 3, sufferings in the Book of Job , chapter 4, theological understanding of suffering, and chapter 5, conclusion. Summary of the thesis is as follows. First, through suffering, God lets us know how Job accepts God's Providence and solve his human problems, which is based on the religious and theological thinking and critics of his friend. The Book of Job shows a view of suffering which goes beyond the traditional view of retributive justice. Job meets God through the view of suffering as the Atonement, and Job understands God's message in the suffering. Job was not able to solve his problems with human wisdom but became convinced that only God could lead him to the solutions of those problems. By seeing God, Job's soul have the taste of God's Omnipotence and unlimited freedom. Through Job's story we learn that God manages universe and does constructive works even now. When we face suffering we should have faith of entrusting everything to God's Providence instead of asking "Why?" Therefore, it is the conclusion of this thesis that God works with love and grace once the suffering passes, and that we must understand the works of God hidden in the human suffering, which approaches us as the secrets of the suffering.
