Battlegrounds를 중심으로 본 Battle Royale 장르 게임의 성공전략

비교적 인기가 없다고 평가되는 ‘베틀로얄’ 분야에서 ‘베틀그라운드’는 예상 밖으로 성공을 누리고 있다. 실제적으로 게임유저의 접속자 수가 많기도 하지만 컴퓨터 이외의 미디어에서도 ‘베틀그라운드’에 관한 콘텐츠를 쉽게 접할 수 있다. TV방송에서도 게임하는 장면을 중계하고 있을 정도이다. 어떤 특정한 게임이 성공하기 위해서는 게임의 구성적인 측면에서 어느 정도 게임유저에게 호감을 제공하고 있다는 것이다. 본 논문에서는 ‘베틀그라운드’의 성공요인을 주목하고 게임의 구조적인 측면에서 특징을 관찰하고 게임 사용자관점에서 선호하는 이유를 분석하고 통찰하고자한다. 먼저, 게임 전체의 구성을 스토리, 그래픽, 사운드, 엔진, 서버 등의 특징을 바탕으로 조사한다. 또한 베틀로얄 장르의 유사분야의 게임과 비교하여 ‘베틀그라운드’의 성공요인과 비교한다. H1Z1, 오버워치와 게임구성의 측면에서 상이점과 특이점을 비교하고 분석함으로 향후 베틀로얄 장르 게임을 개발하고자 하는 개발자에게 유용한 팁을 제공하는데 목적이 있다.
