Automatic transmission vehicle has many advantages over the convenience of driving, acceleration, smooth shifting and the small impact than manual transmission. But, Torque converter used ATF to transfer the power of an engine to an input shaft. Driveline system moved by working fluids brings the loss of power. To solve this problem, a key element of torque converter functions is a Lock-up clutch. The torque converter connects an engine and auto-transmission directly for better fuel enconomy. To reduce more fuel consumption, the slip is generated between a friction facing and front cover these days. The slip however has the bad influence on the torque converter. the heat caused by the slip make the deformation of torque converter. After all, the powertrain system is out of order. In this study we proposed the new analysis method. To analysis the heat transfer between the friction facing and a front cover, the contact pressure analysis is carrien out first. The heat generation predicted is used as the boundary condition of CFD. The comparison between numerical analysis data and experiment data has also been performed.

Automatic transmission vehicle has many advantages over the convenience of driving, acceleration, smooth shifting, and the small impact than manual transmission. But, It is not suitable for small cars because of the complex structure, Large, heavy and expensive. CVT(Continuously Variable Transmission)is apply to small vehicle because of compact mounting space and vehicle speed to suit driving conditions is the best use of engine power, better engine performance and fuel efficiency. With these advantages, a automatic transmission with a CVT and the difference in operating conditions occurs. Therefore, torque converter should be developed to suit the characteristics for the CVT. In addition, the torque converter to transfer power to the fluid that appears during power loss is a cause of poor fuel economy. Fuel economy is increased by adding a long travel damper for low-speed lock up. Therefore this torque converter can operate in an expanded slipping clutch mode. To reduce development time and cost, many kinds of CAE technology is used. This paper is describing the design and development results of CVT torque converter.
