Vol.15 No.3
The changes of the activities of superoxide dismutase (EC 1. 15. 1. 1, SOD) and catalase (EC 1. 11. 1. 6) and the production of superoxide radical in mice lung after the administration of adriamycin (ADM) and dimethylbenzanthracene (DMBA) were studied. ADM (5 or 10mg/kg body weight for 16 days) injected subcutaneously into mice and followed by topical application of DMBA in dose of 20mg/kg once a week for 4 times. The results were summarized as follows: 1. In all experimental groups, the activity of Cu, ZN-SOD was lower than that in control, and activity in ADM 5mg/kg group was higher than that in ADM 10mg/kg group. 2. The activities of Mn-SOD and catalase in all experimental groups were lower than those in the control (p<0.01). 3. Production of superoxide radical in all experimental groups was greater than that control value (p<0.01), and production in ADM 10mg/kg group was greater than that in ADM 5mg/kg group except 1st and 3rd week. In conclusion, it seems likely that ADM and DMBA could decrease the activities of SOD, catalase and increase the superoxide radical production. Therefore, liberated oxygen radical may be attributable to the lung damage caused by ADM and DMBA.
