O-ring or packing is called secondary seal unit used for blocking leakage able to occur on the contact surface between stationary components and assembled ones. Owing to little relative contact velocity, secondary seal units are barely influenced mechanically. But if rotation speed or the diameter of a shaft is increase, secondary seal units are influenced by temperature very much, because heat generating on contact surfaces increase. In this paper, NBR, FKM, FFKM, PTFE elastomer materials used in secondary seal units generally are numerically analyzed for observing thermal behavior due to the diameter of a shaft.

The operation performances of mechanical face seal vary with the material and shape of seal as well as operation environments of fluid pressure, fluid temperature, rotating speed, gap clearance between seals. In this paper, the shape of primary sealing components of mechanical face seal was optimized by the Taguchi's experimental design technique. Strain, axial tilt displacement and von Mises stress applied to the-smaller-the-better characteristic and contact normal stress applied to the-larger-the-better characteristic. Each model shape was numerically analyzed using the finite element method, and Operation performance of seals designed by Taguchi's experimental design technique was compared with original models. The operation performances of the new model optimized by Taguchi's experimental design technique are more improved than them of the original model.

The O-ring seal is a usual component part in various mechanical apparatuses for sealing that makes efficient performance of the equipments. The sealing performance of O-ring is effected in environments of the O-ring seal, like that applied pressures, working temperatures, interferences and materials. In this paper, an pressurized, NBR O-ring is calculated by experimental methods and analysed numerically using the MARC finite element program. The calculated experimental and FEM results showed that the Contact force O-ring decreases as a function of temperature.
주행거리에 따른 디스크 브레이크의 마찰 마멸 특성 연구

In this paper surface profile, roughness and hardness were experimented for study of friction wear characteristic of automotive disk brake considering running distance. In this work, 5 specimens were employed for roughness test as a function running distance. Despite the fact that brakes must operate under a variety of environmental conditions, most research has worked in laboratory with ideal condition. This paper investigated the average roughness of disk brakes which are actually operated in automotive. Average roughness decreased with running distance from 0 to about 10,000㎞ due to unevenly contact surfaces between disk brake and pads. But that has been increased with running distance from about 10,000 to 20,000㎞ due to loss of solid lubrication film and higher contact pressure between two rubbing surfaces.

The purpose of this paper is study and analysis the failure examples for tribological characteristics of automotive steering system. When the revolution of inner tie-rod and ball joint is bad, the steering wheel is difficult for action. Decreasing this condition, the driver must inhibit non-pavement and abnormality road riding. Also, resulting sticking phenomenon identification by oil leaking of oil power steering pump, the driver must keep not only riding condition of normal road but also thoroughly vehicle management according to inspection period. Finally, to decrease failure of system by damaging of power steering belt, the belt have to preserve profit tension.
