In the separation of hydrocarbon mixtures by emulsion liquid membrane in a batch system, investigated were the effects of surfactant concentration, glycerol concentration and mixing speed on the permeation, separation factor and membrane stability. The permeation increased up to 0.5 wt% of the surfactant concentration and showed no significant variation afterwards. The membrane breakup reached its minimum values at the surfactant concentration of 0.1 wt% for all hydrocarbons and the separation factor reached its maximum values at the surfactant concentraion of 0.5wt% for all hydrocarbon mixtures. The emulsification speed in the range from 1200 to 1800 rpm has no significant effect on the permeation and membrane breakup. The permeation decreased with the glycerol concentration increase and the membrane breakup increased almost linearly with the contact speed.
