We studied the effects of properties of the liquids and the gel particles, gas velocity and column dimensions on the gas holdup and the volumetric liquid-phase mass transfer coefficient in a gel suspended bubble column with a draught tube experimentally in a liquid-solid batch operation. The values of ε_(G) and k_(L)a were decreased with increasing concentration of gel particles and were not related to the size of gel particles. Based on these investigations, estimated equations for ε_(G) and k_(L)a that can be applied in columns with diameter 0.08∼0.14 m are proposed.
