Representative organic compounds, such as aldehydes, ketones, acids, esters, nitriles and nitro compounds were reduced with sodium borohydride ín presence of calcium chloride in anhydrous THF: DG = 1: 1 solution at room temperature. 1n the preparation of the hydride solution, the calcium chloride was not dissolved in THF:DG=1:1 solution, but when 191.880 mmoles of sodium borohydride and 93.177 mmoles of calcium chlorid was stirred for 16 hrs, 548.210 mmoles of hydride and 75.420 mmoles of Ca+2 ion was determined in liquid phase and 217.770 mmoles of hydride and 17.756 mmoles of Ca+2 ion was determined in solid phase by the hydrolysis and complex titration with EDTA. This hydride solution was enhanced much more reducing power for the reduction of aldehydes and ketones than the reduction .of those with sodium borohydride. Ethyl benzoate was reduced slowly and consumed 1 equivalent hydride in 24 hrs. Benzoic acid was consumed very slowly two equivalent of hydride, one for the hydrogen evoulution and one for the reduction within 48 hrs.
