      • Investigation of Two Factors Including the Range of Motion and Body Stability and a Comparison of Active and Inactive Men

        ( Safoora Sabbaghian Rad ),( Mostafa Porkiani ),( Azad Mohamadi ) 한국체육학회 2015 국제스포츠과학 학술대회 Vol.2015 No.1

Purpose: The central stability or strengthening the central stability of the body has become one of the know methods in the medical athletic world. The central stability has many benefits including progress in the sport performance, prevention of injuries, and reduction of back pain. In addition, it results in a decrease in the pressure applied to the inactive tissues of the vertebral column. On the other hand, the results of the few tests done on the athletes show that the bodybuilding athletes are exposed to the reduction of the range of motion of the joints and muscular imbalance. Considering the high prevalence of back and body injuries in bodybuilding athletes, investigation of the range of motion of the body in different directions and the central stability and the ration of these two factors in both sides of these athletes` bodies and its comparison with non-athletes can give useful information about the identification of dangerous back and body injury factors in these athletes. Therefore, the purpose of this study is the investigation of two factors including the central stability and the body flexibility and comparing them in bodybuilding athletes and non-athletes. For this purpose, 60 people (including 30 bodybuilding athletes and 30 non-athletes) were selected. Among bodybuilding athletes, elite and healthy ones were selected. In addition, the non-athletes were all healthy. Method: To measure the central stability (flexion, extension, lateral), McGill tests were used. In addition, the body flexibility in the flexion, extension, lateral right and left rotation, and lateral right and left flexion were measured by a tape meter. Result: The results of this study show that the flexion stability time in the bodybuilding athletes was considerably lower than that of the non-athletes (P=0.001). In addition, the flexibility in the flexion (P=0.03) and extension (P=0.02) directions in the bodybuilding athletes was considerably lower than that of the non-athletes. However, no considerable difference was seen between the ranges of motion (flexion to extension, lateral right to left flexion, and right to left rotation) of both groups(P<0.05). Conclusion: In addition, the results of this study showed that the bodybuilding athletes have less central stability in the direction of the flexion and less flexibility in the direction of the flexion and extension in comparison with the non-athletes. This can predispose these athletes to the body injuries in the future.
