      • Performance Study of Manual Reaper Compared to Manual Harvesting for Rice and Wheat

        Considering scarcity and high wage of labor, higher shattering loss, mechanized harvesting is crying need to be introduced as alternative of manual harvesting for rice and wheat in Bangladesh. This paper was carried out to compare the performance of manual reaper against manual harvesting method for rice and wheat. The selected field operations were done in several times to calculate the average performance. The operation time was recorded by stop watch. The actual field capacity and break-even point were calculated by using empirical equation. The average field capacity of manual reaper was 0.3482 ha/day for rice and 0.3236 ha/day for wheat with fuel consumption of 0.755 L petrol/h and 0.625 L petrol/h respectively. In manual harvesting, the average field capacity was 0.0312 ha/man-day and 0.0452 ha/man-day for rice and wheat respectively. It was revealed that using manual reaper, harvesting cost could be saved 58% for rice and 53% for wheat, consequently harvesting of selected crops by reaper was efficient than manual harvesting. It was also observed that if manual reaper works below break-even point 0.32 ha and 0.52 ha for rice and wheat respectively, it would not be economically feasible to farmers. Finally, manual reaper could be suggested as better mechanization for harvesting of rice and wheat, cultivated on fragmented lands.

        Immune response and efficacy of pigeon pox virus vaccine and fowl pox virus vaccine in chickens

        The humoral immune response of chicken vaccinated with fowl and pigeon pox virus vaccines was determined with the protective potentiality of the two vaccines in field condition of Bangladesh. Different aged Fayoumi chicks were subjected for the study. To assess the relationship with better immune response among experimental groups, the average percentage of 'take reaction' was examined and recorded to 97.77% in group A, 93.33% in group B and 100.0% in group C. The level of immune status induced by different vaccinated group was measured by passive hemagglutination (PHA) microplate test method. The mean PHA titer levels after primary vaccination were $33.06{\pm}14.13$ in group A, $32.0{\pm}14.81$ in group B, and $33.0{\pm}13.66$ in group C. Following booster vaccination, the mean PHA titer levels in prior of challenge were increased to $55.46{\pm}14.64$ in groups A and C, and $46.93{\pm}16.52$ in group B. The recorded PHA titer levels of each group at two weeks after challenge were significantly increased to $106.66{\pm}31.22$, $93.86{\pm}33.04$ and $110.93{\pm}29.29$, respectively. The PHA titer levels after vaccination and challenge were significantly increased compared to pre-vaccination titer levels (P<0.01). Although the PHA titer levels among three groups administrated different vaccine combinations in prior of challenge were significantly varied (P<0.01), it was observed that all of the vaccinated chicks were highly protected against challenge infection.

        Prospects and Challenges of Implementing Cloud Accounting in Bangladesh

        The objectives of this study are to understand the meaning of cloud accounting, to investigate whether it is favorable for performance of the organization and what are the challenges if a country like Bangladesh wants to implement it. Primary data have been collected from 300 respondents selected from the field of accounting, such as accountants, accounting graduates of different universities, teachers and bankers. To measure the reliability and validity of the sample size and data, KMO and Bartlett's test have been adopted and the results proved to be reliable and valid for the study. Regression analysis has been done to find out the positive impact of cloud accounting on organizational performance and negative impact of cloud accounting on existing accounting system of the organization. The results of regression analysis supported our alternative hypotheses that cloud accounting can improve organizational performance, but it has also some negative impacts. Descriptive statistics have been used to find out the probable challenges that may be faced by organizations that want to implement it. This is a pioneering study because there is little research on this topic, thus it is expected to develop awareness about cloud accounting in field of accounting in Bangladesh.
