Some Secrets of Korean Church Growth
Nelson, Marlin L. Asian Center for Theological Studies and Mission 1988 ACTS 신학저널 Vol.3 No.-
The growth of the Korean church is a 20th century miracle. Christians in many countries wonder why the church is growing so fast here and not in other Asian countries. While it is impossible to list all the objective reasons for a spiritual movement, I will suggest some reasons though all these "secrets" will not necessarily be in their order of importance. I write as a foreigner, so request understanding if some of my observations are wrong.
A CRITIQUE OF KOREAN CHURCH GROWTH : 1975-1989
Nelson, Marlin L. Asian Center for Theological Studies and Mission 1991 ACTS 신학저널 Vol.4 No.-
As a professor of church growth, people often ask me about the growth of the church in Korea. Is it continuing to grow as rapidly as in the past? If so, what are some of the major causes for growth? If not, what are some of the hindrances to growth? These are easy questions to ask but difficult to answer. It is difficult to get statistics from some denominations. As some people rely upon secondary source, incorrect information is often published. Some published reports probably include duplication of people being counted twice, and some independent churches are not included.
How to Learn a Foreign Language : Secret for an Effective Cross-cultural Ministry
Nelson, Marlin L. Asian Center for Theological Studies and Mission 1996 ACTS 신학저널 Vol.6 No.-
If a foreign missionary can learn another language well, his ministry will obviously be more effective. Missionaries today have better opportunities for learning than did their predecessors. My wife and I came to Korea with World Vision in 1956; the biggest frustration we had then and continue to have now, is difficulty in communication. It is impossible for others to know the frustration adults have when learning another language. We have communicated successfully 재소 our own people for man years, and have become successful pastors, teachers, businessmen, etc. Suddenly, we are among people whose language we neither understand nor speak.

Hundreds of years ago the prophet Isaiah said that we should no longer look backward, but rather look forward because God is doing a new thing(Isa. 43:19)! Since then God has done and continues to do many new things. This is especially true in reference to the evangelization of the world. No longer do Christians see this as the sole responsibility of Western Christians, but realize that the Great Commission applies equally to men and women of every continent, nation and trebe.
