        Optimal Power Allocation and Relay Selection for Cognitive Relay Networks using Non-orthogonal Cooperative Protocol

        In this paper, we investigate joint power allocation and relay selection (PARS) schemes in non-orthogonal cooperative protocol (NOCP) based cognitive relay networks. Generally, NOCP outperforms the orthogonal cooperative protocol (OCP), since it can provide more transmit diversity. However, most existing PARS schemes in cognitive relay networks focus on OCP, which are not suitable for NOCP. In the context of NOCP, we first derive the joint constraints of transmit power limit for secondary user (SU) and interference constraint for primary user (PU). Then we formulate optimization problems under the aforementioned constraints to maximize the capacity of SU in amplify-and-forward (AF) and decode-and-forward (DF) modes, respectively. Correspondingly, we derive the closed form solutions with respect to different parameters. Numerical results are provided to verify the performance improvement of the proposed PARS schemes.

        A Noisy-Robust Approach for Facial Expression Recognition

        Accurate facial expression recognition (FER) requires reliable signal filtering and the effective feature extraction. Considering these requirements, this paper presents a novel approach for FER which is robust to noise. The main contributions of this work are: First, to preserve texture details in facial expression images and remove image noise, we improved the anisotropic diffusion filter by adjusting the diffusion coefficient according to two factors, namely, the gray value difference between the object and the background and the gradient magnitude of object. The improved filter can effectively distinguish facial muscle deformation and facial noise in face images. Second, to further improve robustness, we propose a new feature descriptor based on a combination of the Histogram of Oriented Gradients with the Canny operator (Canny-HOG) which can represent the precise deformation of eyes, eyebrows and lips for FER. Third, Canny-HOG`s block and cell sizes are adjusted to reduce feature dimensionality and make the classifier less prone to overfitting. Our method was tested on images from the JAFFE and CK databases. Experimental results in L-O-Sam-O and L-O-Sub-O modes demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed method. Meanwhile, the recognition rate of this method is not significantly affected in the presence of Gaussian noise and salt-and-pepper noise conditions.

        The effect of chitosan (CS) coagulation bath on structure and performance of polylactic acid (PLA) microfiltration membrane

        Membrane hydrophilicity is a crucial factor in evaluating ultrafiltration processes. In this paper, chitosan(CS) was selected for the hydrophilic modification of the polylactic acid (PLA) membrane, and PLACS membranes wereprepared for the densification of the yeast solution. By non-solvent phase inversion method (NIPS), the PLACS microfiltrationmembranes were prepared by using chitosan (CS) acetic acid solution as the coagulation bath and glutaraldehydeas the crosslinking agent. PLACS membranes were characterized by water contact angle, porosity, pore sizedistribution, mechanical properties, ATR-FTIR, SEM, TGA and the ultrafiltration experiment. The viscosity of coagulationbath solution can severely influence the exchange rate of the solvent and the non-solvent as well during phaseinversion; therefore, it can regulate the precipitation kinetics and membrane morphology. The results showed that chitosan(CS) was presented as granular on the pore surfaces of the PLACS membranes. When chitosan (CS) contentincreased, gel rate became smaller and membrane forming process was prolonged; the porosity and pore size of thePLACS were increased compared to the polylactic acid (PLA) membrane, pure water flux increased from 90.31 L·m2·h1to 120.14 L·m2·h1, and yeast rejection rate increased from 75% to more than 90%.

        Accelerated Split Bregman Method for Image Compressive Sensing Recovery under Sparse Representation

        Compared with traditional patch-based sparse representation, recent studies have concluded that group-based sparse representation (GSR) can simultaneously enforce the intrinsic local sparsity and nonlocal self-similarity of images within a unified framework. This article investigates an accelerated split Bregman method (SBM) that is based on GSR which exploits image compressive sensing (CS). The computational efficiency of accelerated SBM for the measurement matrix of a partial Fourier matrix can be further improved by the introduction of a fast Fourier transform (FFT) to derive the enhanced algorithm. In addition, we provide convergence analysis for the proposed method. Experimental results demonstrate that accelerated SBM is potentially faster than some existing image CS reconstruction methods.
