      • Estimation of Timber Production Under Thinning Scenarios Using a Forest Stand Yield Model

        In this study, forest stand yield and its changes along with 10 thinning scenarios were estimated using a forest stand yield model for six major tree species in Korea (Pinus densiflora in Gangwon province, Pinus densiflora in other regions, Pinus koraiensis, Larix leptolepis, Quercus acutissima Carruth, Quercus mongolica). The 10 thinning scenarios were generated based on a number of management constraints and assumptions. Under the 10 scenarios, the overall stand yield volumes from thinning and final harvesting were estimated for each species. The results showed that highest yield volumes were obtained when 30% of basal areas were thinned at 20 and 40 years for Pinus densiflora in Gangwon province, Pinus koraiensis and Quercus mongolica, while highest yield volumes were obtained when 20% of basal areas were thinned at 20, 30 and 40 years for Pinus densiflora in other regions and Larix leptolepis. These two scenarios gave the same amount of highest yield volume for Quercus acutissima Carruth.

      • Simulated Annealing 휴리스틱 기법을 이용한 임분탄소 최적화 프로그램의 개발

        본 연구에서는 임분 단위에서 산림의 이산화탄소 흡수 및 저장 기능을 최적화 할 수 있는 최적의 산림시업체계를 도출하고자하였고, 이를 위해 임분 생장모델과 Simulated Annealing 휴리스틱 기법을 적용하여 임분탄소 최적화 프로그램을 개발하였다. 휴리스틱 알고리즘에서 최적해를 찾기 위해 반복 실행 되는 과정에서 더 이상 최적해을 찾지 못하고 목표 값이 어떤 일정한 값(Local Optimum)에 계속 머무는 현상을 해결하기 위해 임계치를 적용하며, SA 휴리스틱 기법에서는 열균형테스트를 이용하고있다. 개발된 프로그램을 이용하여 3가지 산림 시업 시나리오에 대한 비교 분석을 실시하기 위해 프로그램을 실행한 결과, 목재수확량의 경우 목재수확량을 최대를 목표로 한 대안이 3개 시나리오 가운데 목재수확량이 가장 높은 것으로 나타났으며, 또한 탄소저장량에서도 탄소저장량을 최적화한 대안이가 탄소저장량이 가장 높은 것으로 나타나 프로그램이 목적에 맞게 개발된 것으로 판단됐다. 또한 열균형 테스트의 온도저감율을 조정하여 프로그램을 반복실행하여 온도저감율이 프로그램 실행 시에 미치는 영향을 분석한 결과 온도저감율에 따라 출력되는 목적함수의 최적값과 프로그램 반복횟수가 영향을 받는 것으로 나타나 프로그램 실행을 최적으로 하기위해 온도 저감율의 파라미터 값을 0.1로 설정하였다.

        Simulated Annealing 휴리스틱 기법을 이용한 임분탄소 최적화 프로그램의 개발

        본 연구에서는 동적 임분 생장모델과 Simulated Annealing 휴리스틱 기법을 적용하여 최적의 산림시업체계를 도출하기 위한 임분탄소최적화 프로그램을 개발하였다. SA 휴리스틱 알고리즘은 다양한 경영목표를 다룰 때 비교적 짧은 시간 내에 만족할만한 수준의 경영안을 제공할 수 있는 최적화 기법으로서, 더 이상 최적해를 찾지 못하고 목표 값이 어떤 일정한 값(Local Optimum)에 계속 머무는 현상을 해결하기 위해 열균형 테스트를 이용하고 있다. 열균형 테스트에 적용되는 온도저감율 파라미터 값이 최적화 프로세스의 목적함수 값과 반복횟수에 미치는 영향을 분석하기 위해 본 연구에서는 온도저감율에 따른 민감도 분석을 실시하였다. 개발된 프로그램을 이용하여 기존의 산림경영에 주로 적용되고 있는 시업체계(베이스라인), 목재수확량 최대와 탄소저장량 최대의 3가지 산림시업 시나리오에 대해 비교 분석을 한 결과, 목재수확량 최대를 목표로 한 시나리오가 3개 시나리오 가운데 목재수확량이 가장 높은 것으로 나타났으며, 또한 탄소저장량을 최대로 하는 시나리오가 탄소저장량이 가장 높은 것으로 나타나, 본 연구에서 개발된 프로그램이 최적화된 결과를 도출하는 것으로 판단됐다. 온도저감율 파라미터 값에 대한 민감도 분석에서는 온도저감율에 따라 목적함수의 최적 값과 최적화 프로세스 반복횟수가 뚜렷한 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구를 통해 개발된 임분탄소 최적화 프로그램은 앞으로 우리나라 산림의 탄소 최적화 시업체계 개발에 활용 될 것으로 기대된다. In this study, we developed a program of optimizing stand-level carbon stock using a stand-level yield model and the Simulated Annealing (SA) heuristic method to derive a optimized forest treatment solution. The SA is one of the heuristic algorithms that can provide a desirable management solution when dealing with various management purposes. The SA heuristic algorithm applied 'thermal equilibrium test', a thresholds approach to solve the phenomenon that does not find an optimum solution and stays at a local optimum value during the process. We conducted a sensitivity test for the temperature reduction rate, the major parameter of the thermal equilibrium test, to analyze its influence on the objective function value and the total iteration of the optimization process. Using the developed program, three scenarios were compared: a common treatment in forestry (baseline), the optimized solution of maximizing the amount of harvest(alternative 1), and the optimized solution of maximizing the amount of carbon stocks(alternative 2). As the results, we found that the alternative 1 showed provide acceptable solutions for the objectives. From the sensitivity test, we found that the objective function value and the total iteration of the process can be significantly influenced by the temperature reduction rate. The developed program will be practically used for optimizing stand-level carbon stock and developing optimized treatment solutions.

      • Ameliorative Effect of <i>Ecklonia cava</i> Polyphenol Extract on Renal Inflammation Associated with Aberrant Energy Metabolism and Oxidative Stress in High Fat Diet-Induced Obese Mice

        <P>Immoderate fat accumulation causes both oxidative stress and inflammation, which can induce kidney damage in obesity. Previously, Ecklonia cava has shown anti-inflammatory and antioxidative effects. Our group aimed to investigate whether E. cava polyphenol extract (ECPE) improves renal damage in high fat diet (HFD)-induced obese mice through regulation of not only energy metabolism but also oxidative stress and inflammation. After obesity induction by HFD, the mice were treated with different dosages of ECPE (100 or 500 mg/kg/day) by gavage for 12 weeks. ECPE treatment lowered the protein levels related to lipid accumulation (SREBP1c, ACC & FAS), inflammation (NLRP3 inflammasome, Na kappa B, MCP-1, TNF-alpha & CRP), and oxidative stress (Nrf2, HO-1, MnSOD, NQO1, GPx, 4-HNE and protein carbonyls) in HFD induced obese mice. Moreover, ECPE supplementation significantly up-regulated renal SIRT1, PGC-l alpha, and AMPK, which are associated with renal energy metabolism. Consequently, the results provide novel insights into the anti-inflammatory roles of ECPE in obesity-induced renal inflammation.</P>

        Brown Alga <i>Ecklonia cava</i> Polyphenol Extract Ameliorates Hepatic Lipogenesis, Oxidative Stress, and Inflammation by Activation of AMPK and SIRT1 in High-Fat Diet-Induced Obese Mice

        <P>Obesity is considered to be a metaflammatory condition. <I>Ecklonia cava</I>, brown algae rich in polyphenols, has shown strong antioxidant activity in vitro. This study investigated the effect of <I>E. cava</I> polyphenol extract (ECPE) on the regulation of fat metabolism, inflammation, and the antioxidant defense system in high fat diet-induced obese mice. After obesity was induced by a high-fat diet (HFD), the mice were administered ECPE by gavage for 5 days/12 weeks. ECPE supplementation reduced body weight gain, adipose tissue mass, plasma lipid profiles, hepatic fat deposition, insulin resistance, and the plasma leptin/adiponectin ratio derived from HFD-induced obesity. Moreover, ECPE supplementation selectively ameliorated hepatic protein levels associated with lipogenesis, inflammation, and the antioxidant defense system as well as activation of AMPK and SIRT1.         유한요소법과 직교배열표를 이용한 공동주택의 바닥충격진동 저감해석에 관한 연구

        Finite element method and the tables of orthogonal arrays were used to reduce the floor impact vibration of the reinforced concrete slab in the apartment buildings. At first, previous experimental results showed that sound peak components to influence the rating of floor impact sound insulation were coincident with natural frequencies of the reinforced concrete slab, and there was a high linear relation between floor impact vibration and sound. In this study, to reduce the floor impact vibration the tables of orthogonal arrays were used for finite element analysis with 3 factors related to material properties and 5 factors related to slab shape parameters, and its results were analyzed by statistical method. The most effective factor among slab shape parameters to reduce the floor impact vibration was the length of living room and the floor impact vibration was predicted by 41% reduction in the acceleration peak by the optimal design values of the factors.

        A case of polypoid cystitis in a dog

        Among benign proliferation of the urinary bladder, polypoid cystitis is a rare disease in dogs. It is characterized by epithelial proliferation, chronic inflammation in lamina propria, and development of a polypoid mass or masses without evidence of neoplasia. This report describes histopathologic features of polypoid cystitis in dog. A 10-year-old spayed female shihtzu-dog was presented with two-month history of hematuria. Abdominal ultrasonography confirmed the thickened bladder wall and calculi in both kidneys. Surgical biopsy sample was taken from the thickened bladder mucosa for the histopathologic examination. The mass was covered with irregular hyperplastic transitional epithelium with the projection into the lumen in multifocal areas as well as many Brunn's nests in lamina propria. Many inflammatory cells such as lymphocyte, plasma cell, and macrophage and few neutrophils were occupied in lamina propria and submucosa. Proliferated fibrous tissues in lamina propria were clarified by using special staining methods. These collagens were stained blue with Masson's trichrome and red with van Gieson, but negative for alcian blue. Based on the clinical, gross, and histopathologic examinations, this case was diagnosed as polypoid cystitis in a dog. In our best knowledge, this is the first report of polypoid cystitis in dog in Korea.
