Saam Acupuncture on Total Bilirubin in a Patient with Liver Cirrhosis-induced Jaundice: A Case Study

The objective of this case study was to report the improvement of a patient with liver cirrhosis-induced jaundice by Saam acupuncture. Acupuncture was performed thrice a week for 4 weeks. Blood tests and Child scores were used to compare status before and after treatment. Measurements were taken on the 1st (screening). 8th, and 14th visits. A 55-year-old man with liver cirrhosis-induced jaundice received acupuncture treatment. Prior to treatment. he had ascites, splenomegaly, and esophageal varices. His symptoms included yellow skin and eyes, fatigue, indigestion, limb edema, insomnia, and xerostomia. Compared to baseline. T-bilirubin level decreased. whereas D-bilirubin, aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase. international normalized ratio, blood urea nitrogen / creatinine. and Child score showed only slight changes. The patient`` s symptoms were improved. After acupuncture, we observed total bilirubin decreased in a patient with jaundice associated with liver cirrhosis. However, well designed controlled clinical trials are needed to confirm the efficacy and safety of acupuncture for the treatment of liver cirrhosis-induced jaundice.
