Silver nanoparticle loaded silica adsorbent for wastewater treatment
Vaidyanathan Thamilselvi,Kuravappulam Vedhaiyan Radha 한국화학공학회 2017 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.34 No.6
Our aim was to prepare silver nanoparticle loaded silica adsorbent for the removal of pollutants and pathogens in wastewater. The pathogens were inactivated by silver nanoparticles loaded with silica by wet impregnation method. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and X-ray Diffraction studies confirmed the silver nanoparticle loaded on silica. Inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy showed 0.6mg/g silver nanoparticle in the prepared adsorbent. The prepared adsorbent has potential against Escherichia coli and was described through Chick, Chick-Watson and Homs inactivation kinetic models. Five-hundred (500) ppm concentration of the prepared adsorbent showed complete inhibition with the shouldering or lag curve of inactivation and the k' values of 0.019 min−1. After treatment, tannery, dairy and canteen effluents showed significant COD reduction with maximum adsorption capacity of 145, 142 and 69mg/g visa versa. Regeneration of the spent adsorbent used alkali washing and reused up to three cycles.

Ovarian Sertoli-Leydig cell tumors are rare sex cord-stromal tumors, accounting for less than 1% of ovarian tumors. Majority of these tumors are benign and unilateral, only 3-5% are bilateral. These patients present with clinical features of virilization due to excessive secretion of testosterone from the tumor, however 50% may have no endocrine symptoms. We report a case of poorly differentiated Sertoli-Leydig cell tumour in a woman diagnosed during routine investigation of infertility. She had two spontaneous successful pregnancies after tumor excision laparoscopically.

Aspergillus niger VB07 was isolated from the soil of citrus fruit market used to produce extracellular naringinase in a liquid medium. Various parameters of fermentation have been examined in order to improve overall enzyme yield. Naringinase yield of 17.28 IU/mL in an optimized medium containing naringin (0.1%), rhamnose (0.5%), peptone (0.25%), glycine (10 mM), and pH 4.5 at 28℃ for 7 days has been obtained at shake flask level. Compared to the initial medium, the highest naringinase yield observed is approximately increased by 1.8 times under the optimized conditions. Amino acids mediated naringinase synthesis was reported.

In this research work, a seven-term 3-D novel jerk chaotic system with two quadratic nonlinearities has been proposed. The basic qualitative properties of the novel jerk chaotic system have been described in detail. Next, an adaptive backstepping controller is designed to stabilize the novel jerk chaotic system with two unknown parameters. Moreover, an adaptive backstepping controller is designed to achieve complete chaos synchronization of the identical novel jerk chaotic systems with two unknown parameters. MATLAB simulations have been shown in detail to illustrate all the main results developed for the 3-D novel jerk chaotic system.

In this paper, global chaos synchronization is investigated for WINDMI (J. C. Sprott, 2003) and Coullet (P. Coullet et al, 1979) chaotic systems using adaptive backstepping control design based on recursive feedback control. Our theorems on synchronization for WINDMI and Coullet chaotic systems are established using Lyapunov stability theory. The adaptive backstepping control links the choice of Lyapunov function with the design of a controller and guarantees global stability performance of strict-feedback chaotic systems. The adaptive backstepping control maintains the parameter vector at a predetermined desired value. The adaptive backstepping control method is effective and convenient to synchronize and estimate the parameters of the chaotic systems. Mainly, this technique gives the flexibility to construct a control law and estimate the parameter values. Numerical simulations are also given to illustrate and validate the synchronization results derived in this paper.
An overview on chemical processes for synthesis of graphene from waste carbon resources

Graphene, the wonder material has brought a revolutionary change in the field of nanotechnology owing to its tremendous properties. Though different methods for the synthesis of graphene have been reported, the chemical synthesis route offers a scalable and high-volume production of graphene. The unreliability of graphite and hydrocarbon resources to serve as steady supplies of carbon resources and further in the synthesis of graphene has led to the exploration and use of alternative low-cost carbon-rich resources (coal, graphite, rice husk, sugarcane bagasse, peanut shells, waste tyres, etc.) as precursors for graphene synthesis. The use of untraditional carbon resources reduces dependence on traditional resources (coal, graphite), reduced cost, increased reliability, and provides a way for the management of waste biomass. This review hence focuses on the synthesis of graphene by the most common approachable method, oxidation–reduction of graphite, along with the various other chemical methods of synthesis from varied carbon resources.

Privacy of personal information is an area of growing concern and importance. The heart of the conflict is between commercial value and respect for an individual’s right to privacy. This tradeoff is of economic value and the issue of privacy is an economic problem that justifies the emergence of the economics of privacy as an important discipline, combining efforts of regulation, technology, and business efficiency. In this survey paper, we look into work done by eminent researchers on the economic aspects of privacy and privacy’s relationship with people, technology, and regulation.
